Per Predator web site info. If changing from a phenolic tip, you should leave part of the tip phenolic on or at least a fiber pad, if I remember correctly.
If the tip change was not done properly, this could have been your problem.
And that in itself may and most likely will determine whether you get warranty or not. Depends on where and how bad the damage is.
The ferrule tenon wall is pretty thin. I'd venture a guess and say that KJ or someone would be able to replace the tenon but if the shaft itself is cracked, its pretty much toast. If you glue it, it would only be a matter of time before the shaft blew up on your buddy.
Gotta be truthful, its not looking good for you.
That said, if you ask this question over at the Ask the Cue Maker forum, KJ will answer it with more info than anyone else can. He does all of the Predator repairs for Seyberts. His word is gospel when it comes down to Pred repairs.
There is a poster (Newton) from Norway. Here are a few pictures of Predator ferrule repairs here to get a look at what the tenon looks like without a ferrule.

Hopefully you can get off easy. Good luck.
