Broken Pocket

I noticed one of my pockets was awfully loose. I took the rail off and discovered that both sides of the pocket were broken.
This is "pot metal" and it doesn't weld very easily at all. I'm going to try and repair it tonight at work. Otherwise I will have to replace it. Both sides are broken like the one in the picture.

Sounds like a lot of "1 pocket" play with bookoo breakouts :)

If you're going to replace them, do it with stainless steel. It's very unforgiving, and may give your an edge.

Another thought, you could layer steel with rubber (conservitively) as the replacement.

I don't think they are pot metal. I know I welded one a long time ago. I welded a piece of stainless to it. I have never been able to weld pot metal and make it stick. At least not arc welding. They do make a pot metal rod for torch welding, but you really have to be good to use it. You can buy new irons from AE Schmitt or Muellers. Butterflycues

It's cast aluminum. I was able to TIG weld one side last night. I'll try to do the other side tomorrow if I have time.

I am not sure I have ever heard of "Pot Metal" before... is that like Led Zeppelin or Jimi Hendrix?

Just joking you, Hal!

Hope you get your table fixed!

What brand of table is it?
It's a Cannon. I bought it at a pool and spa place. Floor model. Cash and carry. It's actually a fairly decent table. I bought it because the slate is 1.25 thick. I gotta get to bed. Be back on later.

I have that same exact table, with same color cloth. What do you think? I like it... Have you noticed that is about an inch or two taller than normal pool hall tables? I really like the tight corner pockets too. Have you had any problems with the slate matching up? I have a little bump between one spot where they match up... Talked to this guy yesterday and he said that i can put a wedge in from the bottom to even them out??? We'll see... Anyway... nice table.

To make a long story short, after getting the runaround for several months, I was given 6 free pockets for my table. The place where I purchased the table was very apologetic and told me they simply dropped the ball.

Also, I've decided to keep the table. We're going to remodel our remodeling plans. :D
