The wood grain is going in the wrong direction. Poor craft. Would expect it to be replaced.

What kind of shot did it break on? Or did it break as you were screwing it together? Was there any indication something was wrong before it snapped?

That is what I and many others think. The manufacturer said it was obviously due to using the cue stick on the break of a new game. They did give me 50% off on a new stick, but I'm not very satisfied with the whole experience. Thanks for your comment.

$200 is still a very cheap cue
There should be 0 reasons why a break would cause the cue to snap like that. That is an idiotic reason not to warranty it fully. The only thing I can see breaking on a break with a bad miscue or when hitting the table is the ferrule. I don't care how hard a player breaks, nothing in the butt should be damaged during the shot.
To me, that wood looks to be in really bad shape, what you would see in a rotting log.
Is there a story to this?
If that's the handle section that broke it had to have been leaned on pretty hard. Never seen ANY cue break in that area without some high stress applied to the side of the cue. If, and imo a BIG if, it did just suddenly break there it must have been a bad/porous/rotted piece of wood.
It was the strangest thing, I used it to play a shot and put it on my hanger. Went to grab it for my next shot and I (and 3 other people) saw the wrap portion of the butt was at a crazy angle. Upon inspection, we saw what you are seeing in the attached pictures. I called a friend who is much more knowledgeable regarding pool and pool equipment. He stated that it was broken at a knot in the wood. Also, he said the bolt doesn't just break like that from casual use. Thanks for the note.
