I think this is spot on. The break occurring at the end of the bolt is no surprise when coupled with what appears to be bad wood.

cant tell if the bolt actually broke or just came out of the wood.
the wood is either rotten but looks like it was particle or sawdust glued wood.
still i bet some extra pressure was put on the cue at some time before it happened.
but cheap cues are cheap for a reason. buy junk get junk.

Get something you like the hit of, then change a bunch of things that will affect the hit? SMH.
Both shafts on my Schmelke sp warped in a lil(about 14mos) over a yr. Was told their policy is one year on warpage. Sold the pos the nxt day. A new Players sneaky is much better. Sorry folks but its true. I had one as a back-up/bar beater and left it(cased) in my car year round. Cue was about 10yrs old when i sold it. Still DEAD straight. I'm not the only one who has had Schmelke shafts go bad. They either don't know how or don't care about curing the wood long enough.
In N.J. minimum wage in the early '60's was $1.00 an hour.
I was scuffleing in the pool room and decided to get a job (I was 17) so I went to work in an auto upholstering shop at a $1.00 an hour.
My take home pay was $37.50.
I quit and went back to the pool room.
Hey OP Buy a Schmelke.
You can find plenty of recent threads complaining about Schmelke as well and their crooked and off-center joint pins. But they are a US company that stands behind their products at least.
Their attitude on my deal was a joke. I special ordered it with collars and a butt cap. Butt was fine but the shafts warped(not bad). They said because its over a year all they could do is sell me new ones. Yeah right. A kid at the hall snapped it up cheap. I've had Players,Lucasi, Fury Chinese cues that had WAY better shaft wood than what i got from Schmelke.
I think companies like Players use or used to use nelsonite or similar wood stabilizer that friggin works but is highly toxic and will cause cancer in California.
If you have a problem with a Schmelke at least you can call them and I've heard they are pretty easy to work with if you have a concern.
Pool cues from the low end to the high end can have problems but the real test is does the maker or company stand behind them.
My Schmelke so far has been rock solid.
And my 14 year old Lucasi is still perfect.go figure.

Lucasi shafts are some of the best maple shafts i've ever seen.
Lucasi too I believe. Same contractor. Guy used to run one of the pool rooms around here was a dealer and he said Players cues always came straight. Used to could get a steel joiner for 50 bucks back then.
That factory makes: Lucasi, ADAM, Players, HXT, Riley, Buffalo, Universal and i'm sure others. At full tilt they can make over 40THOUSAND cues/month.
Yeah would be impossible to age and rest all their shaft wood. That's one of the good things about Chinese cues. They stay the way they're cut.
$1.25 per when I began. Netted $42,50 a week. First (Rich) cue was $32. Proud that I could afford and own one

Did you remind the fella at the manufacturer that is generally how pool is played, you start with a break shot first??? I have been breaking with my player for over 10 years now, I have not had a problem.
