Brown Linen Phenolic

I too have had slight problems finding darker brown.. I havent tried it yet..but in the past I have had great success dyeing plastics with powder rit dye, water & acetone. good thing is that the acetone makes the dye penetrate the plastic a few thousands of an inch so you can sand a bit without removing the dye. bad thing is that you have to have just the right amount of acetone for it to work.. to little..and the dye wont penetrate... too much and you melt the plastic..also..very critical..is the length of time its kept in the solution..so..it will take quite a few tries to get it right.. I would experiment on scrap pieces till I got it right. Another problem pertaining to making cues would be that you would have to glue the collar on the cue..turn it down to final size...remove the collar...dye it..then reglue it..since the dye doesnt penetrate too far.

The things we gotta go through to get things the way we want it. :)

If I recall correctly bakelite doesn't have any fibers in it and is pretty brittle...it would probably shatter a chunk out after a while....

And would you be willing to let us know who the source is???

I recently got a runde that had a similar color that you are looking for, maybe a touch lighter... anyone know how to get a hold of him?

Sorry to bump up old threads......but I have a 6-8 inch piece here with me. I am pretty sure I can get more. But only in the butt size. I'll post pics tomorrow when I get back from vacation. I can't get any in the joint size. Well anyway, If anyof you are interested just keep an eye out for this thread tommorow or the next day. So you can see what I have. Thanks

Tony

I spoke with chad at atlas and managed to get a sample piece to compare to the other brown linens. I have some old stock brown, to me the old stock has a more brick red color to it. The new stuff is more of a chocolate brown. Under normal light it's not easy to tell the old stock apart from the new stock. I don't think the pic that is posted on atlas does the new color justice. I also cut into it and the color is consistant throught. I stink at posting pics, but here goes; A: old stock B: new atlas brown C: new light stock
