In a few days I will be dis-assembling a 10-foot Centennial Snooker table. The guy that hired me said it was a 5pc., 1 1/2" slate. Is this correct?

I have seen four. I never seen five.
Would be some neat pictures.

There is someone 90 mins from me in Indy who has a 10ft centennial carom for sale. Was thinking of buying it. Cant decide, i'd probably sit on it forever I'd buy it if i thought i could find a home for it in the next 12 months. Let us know on the slate. Last 10ft. Bwick antique i saw was a Commander 3pc. 1 1/2" was already dismantled sitting under a tarp in the back yard of a frat house. We went to pick it up and deliver it to a alum. We showed up not knowing what it was exactly and I called and told him to get a bunch of his buddies a uhual truck and when he gets it in his basement we would come and set it up NO CHARGE. Never heard from him.

We have had a couple 10 foot anniversary, centennials and crowns in a snooker model and all of them have been 3pc one inch. Remember, they were using the same slate for the 10 foot anniversarys and centennials.

With that being said, we have seen some unusual things geared for the canadian market over the years.

i have seen 5 piece 1 1/2 inch slate on 6X12 tables
the only 5X10 1 1/2 inch slate i have seen was on a old brunswick and was only 3 piece

10 x 5 foot snooker table

In a few days I will be dis-assembling a 10-foot Centennial Snooker table. The guy that hired me said it was a 5pc., 1 1/2" slate. Is this correct?

No, probably not if this table is truly a stock Centennial table is should be 1 inch slate and 3 piece.

here is the quote from the Brunswick website with the original Centennial specs on the slate

"- Slate: A matched set of slate, consisting of three pieces one inch thick, each piece backed up by a wood frame, is mounted on top of base frame. The slate joints are kept in perfect alignment by means of metal dowels and ferrules. Slate is accurately drilled for rail bolts. Slate is fastened to slate frame by concealed screws. Entire playing surface is left unmarred by screws. Slate is tightly anchored to base frame. The bottom of slate frame is planed and the top surface of the slate ground to obtain uniform thickness throughout."

Ok this the link to the specs of the centennial table

I have a 10 x 5 snooker Brunswick also but mine is a Conqueror and is 3 piece and 1 1/2 slate. The centennial should be easier to deal with that my monster was being only 1 inch.

Good answer, there's not a chance the table has 5 pieces of slate, no manufacture has ever made a modern era 10ft table with more than 3 piece slate:grin:

Hi RKC,
Guess I get to correct ya here! I love this job... Attached is a picture of a 10ft snooker table though I cannot recall the manufacturer off hand. Course it isn't a Brunswick but you know me..

The cobra bites back, that's not a 5 piece slate, it's 4 pieces:D...AND, it's not modern era;) and yes, 4 piece slates have even been used on 8ft antique Brunswick tables in the past:D

how many fingers am I holding up? (thumb counts here)

Nope, it was a 5pc. That is two ends with corner pockets, two with no pocket cuts and a center slate with the sides. Look at the plaster dust on the frame. This table is 10-15 years old, I believe it was made in South Africa where the guy bought it. And yes, I do know of Brunswick making 4 pc slates. I have an 1890ish York in my stable. These snooker slates were wierd as they were 2ft by 5ft and around 2" thick. Still around 250lb so I was happy they weren't 3pc.

Your venom has no effect on me:wink:

Getting ready to make some stairclimbers?

So how many fingers am I holding up?

Have you ever seen a 2pc slate or greater than 5? I saw a crappy table once with a 2pc slate that couldn't have been a half inch thick, I walked away from that. It was a cheapo from the 70's.
