Hey Guys,

I have an opportunity to locally purchase a Willie Hoppe "Professional" Brunswick Cue (seems to be from the 60's).

The cue is supposedly straight, but according to owner, will need a new tip if I want to play with it.

I wanted to see what other's experiences were if they've ever played with this cue, or if it is something to get strictly for a collection. If you do play with your hoppe, how would you describe it?

Thanks.

I saw that cue. If its in the $200 range, and straight, I'd grab it. Darren Hill up north converted one for a buddy recently and it's his main player now. He thinned down the handle a little to today's standards, it looks and plays great. (Modern shaft made too).

So depending on what you intend on doing with it, it could be a good deal.

You didn't mention the price.

I have one. Mine is as original and pristine. Fun to play with occasionally.

If you want to have one converted for a real player that is possible as well.

I sure wouldn't pass one up for a good price.

Once went recently on Ebay and I am convinced most didn't know what they were looking at. It was a very early one...and it didn't go for much.

You say it "seems to be 60's"? How do you know? Are you aware of how to tell?

It could be worth more....or less....than suspected.

Also, some are not good candidates for conversion for a variety of reasons.

Basically, not enough info in your post....but again, I wouldn't pass one up for a good price.

Local PA player Billy McCoy won the 1980 PA state 9ball championship playing with an original hoppe pro and says it plays great. He wants to go back to using it as his regular player even though it is ancient and filthy lol

I didn't know this got moved here from Main Forum. Anyway, here's the Craigslist link to the local seller:
http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/spo/3742624788.html

When I emailed him, he told me $250. It was firm, and not shipped. Seller said it's straight, but needs a new tip.

Honestly, I was curious about it, but I assume if I'd have to convert a bunch, then it's not really worth it.

As you see in my signature, I'm not much of a collector, as I always want to get players and I sell them if they don't stack up :-P

Its a sick addiction. Anyway, if anyone else is interested, feel free to reach out to the seller.

cue

Yeah, I'm in Chicago and I saw that one too. $250 is a pretty good price for that cue in my opinion. I just don't have anymore room in my collection for the brunswick Hoppe's.
