Joking aside, during war times (and depressions) Brunswick did what many companies did, and tried to diversify, to make up for lagging profits.

In 1912 J. Whalen (aka 'Dad' Whalen) and the "rubber men" in Muskegon produced America's first rubber toilet seat. (for Brunswick)
Asses around the country breathed a collective sigh of relief.
