I was wondering if anyone has any experience in brushing on the finish? I don't have the ability of a spray booth, so I'll need to brush it on. Can anyone help me? What would be a good finish to use? Where can I get it?

It's kind of like painting your car with a roller. You can do it....BUT. To repair a car, you need the right tools. To make Qs is the same & one of them is a SPRAY ON FINISH...JER

Prather sells a 2 part finish that you can apply with a foam brush or even with a plastic glove. But like Blackheart said....

When I started I brushed on my finish while turning slowly in the lathe (automotive clear coat). Those cues don't compare to the finish on the newer cues that was sprayed on, less work, faster, less sanding, better results. I spray my cues in the garage, remember to remove the cars and crack the garage doors and wear a resperator.

If you don't have a spray booth, you could still use a spray gun... just cover up anything that needs to be covered, try putting a canopy like thing over your lathe to minimize dust particles in getting to your finish... hvlp gun and a good quality auto clear... this ain't the ultimate setup but it's good to get started using autoclear.

Using that epoxy finish is a lot of hard work, doesn't buff as well as auto clear... and super glue finish doesn't hold that long, prone to break and chip but does buff to a good shine.

Brush finish

If you could get a hold of Nubbs Wagner, he could help you. That is the way Nova finished their cues. They had a great finish. Butterflycues

Wipe-On Poly

I've refinished about a dozen or more cues using a product called Wipe-On Poly made by MinWax. You can get it in a Semi Gloss or Gloss.

It spreads on very easily using a soft cotton rag or foam brush (preferred) and smooths out by itself very well; I usually do 4 or 5 thin coats sanding and/or steel wooling between coats.

After a week or so you can polish the coating with a beeswax. They turn out really pretty nice....if I do say so myself -- and I do :D
