BU Tests. How many of you have taken the test? This might be the thing we need to converse.

If one has taken the tests, with his results posted in the BU Test area, everyone could look at the poster's quality of play at pool. I took the test 6 years ago but I did practice it before hand, did not have a jump cue so failed that part. I scored 111 which is about average. I'm ready to take it again thinking I'll improve. If someone gives you crap on here, look up his score on the BU and see if he knows what he's writing about.
Maybe to get the Gold rating on AZB, one has to have taken the test. Maybe not the gold but maybe the platinum. Just an idea....

The BU test definitely requires putting in some effort. Just the setup requires a couple hours.

I do not require proof of ability to chat on this forum. 😂

Last I noticed Ray Martin was on here although he seldom posts. A few more that are masters of the game without BU scores or Fargo ratings. As a general rule the giants feel no need to prove they are giants to validate themselves to other people. Some pro and pro level players on here that have chosen to use aliases to mingle with the herd. They are deliberately under the radar, unlikely to strut their stuff with any form of testing and publish the scores.

I read a bit of what one of the premier snooker coaches writes now and then and we have casual conversations off and on. Not a student/coach relationship, just friendly conversation. He is very unlikely to bother trying to quantify his knowledge. Others like me are not without knowledge in specific areas but too old and grumpy to jump through hoops to satisfy others. Nobody is paying for my knowledge, I don't give a rat's ass if they take my suggestions or not!(grin)

Okay, that is your opinion. Thanks. If someone gives me crap on here, and his score is 65 on the BU tests....

So nobody should care about the BU test making one a qualified expert. 😂

I took the test (two tests) as a personal challenge and for fun. I think your missing the point of BU. It's not so you can claim your an expert on all things pool. Many pros are terrible teachers and many non players know the game well.

Whenever I hear someone trying to qualify who can speak and who can't it rubs me the wrong way.

I don't think Bobkitty has any ill intent. When getting advice from strangers it is nice to know their knowledge. Has the person ever ran a rack in their life? Have they been in the upper echelon of players either tournament or gambling? A nice comprehensive description of a person's knowledge would be nice, something like the CAT or ACT of pool. People regurgitating knowledge they got from others rarely get everything right and each generation from the original source usually adds a few more errors or misinterpretations.

The subject of a rating for people on here comes up pretty regularly. It will never happen and would strangle the flow of information if it did. For the most part you have to read enough to know who you will value as sources. AZB is big enough that excellent advice often comes from unknowns. The trick is sorting through the chaff yourself to find the wheat!

Usually you can tell if someone knows what they are talking about by what they are saying. I know a lot of good players that have no ideas about cue makers or shaft construction or ball sets or how a table should be setup. Steve Mizerak has often said in his commentary and in instruction videos the break was a big mystery and relied on luck to make balls and how it reacted, yet we know that is not the case. I remember one time he said "if you make a ball you crossed a finger, if you made two balls you crossed two fingers" LOL
