Is that really a Made In America cue? Those sneaky petes are real nice looking, especially for the money.

It sure is Made in America. In Wisconsin...

Great folks to deal with too.

Here's what Scott Lee wrote in response on another thread:

When I was younger I used to think Schmelke cues were junk. I'll admit a lot of the misperception came from the fact that they were "cheap"! Then, one year, while I was teaching the BCA Summer Youth Cue Camp, in WI, with Jerry Briesath and Mark Wilson, we took the kids on a field trip to the Schmelke factory in Rice Lake, WI. I was BLOWN away at the amount of detail they put into every cue...over 100 steps from rough wood to finished cue. They had five different joints you could choose from, and like you wanted, they would put any detail into the cue that a customer desired. I came away with a newfound respect for this company. So much so, that I wrote an article for BD praising the company and the Schmelke family. Here it is almost 15 years later, and they still make excellent cues for very reasonable money! What a great American success story!

I like Joss better than Pechauer, McDermott, or Viking. See if you can try a few of each and choose the one that feels best. There are alot of well made cues for $300 or less. Good luck.

Don't waste your time and money on production cues. There are many custom cuemakers that make SneakyPetes and/or PlainJane cues for that price range. Pat Diveny is a good one.

How about a nice pro/con comparison of "production" vs. custom cues, then? I have found that for my purposes so-called production cues are a better choice.

Throw out some thoughts on the subject, and let everyone draw their own conclusions.

mcdermott's have a better hit from the factory IMO than Joss do. I have no idea about Mezz. I like McDermott's for the money however. There are a lot of cue makers that can build you a plain jane cue for around that.

Hi all,

I am ready to buy aa new pool cue for this season!

My budget is $300.

I like 18oz cues with Moori medium tip installed and 12.75mm tip size.

By the time this thread has run its course, you will have been told to buy a cue from every brand you've ever heard of, and many you haven't heard of.

Anymore, all you have to do is look at poster's name, and you know what they're going to suggest.

So, here's mine. Same as always:

JOSS cue, from the BilliardWarehouse ( http://www.billiardwarehouse.com ).

Most of the other suggestions are good choices as well (Josey, Shurtz, etc.)

hi

OK, we bought 3 cues and got one for free.

Here is what we bought (2 of my teammates and me):

JOSS - 03-09 with 13.25mm shaft
JOSS - 03-11 with 13mm shaft
Mezz - EC-N with standard maple shaft 12.8mm

The first JOSS with 13.25mm feels better that the one with 13mm shaft. I measured and it is more front balanced , just a bit more, than the one with 13mm. If I would buy JOSS for me I would go with 13.25mm definatelly!

I can confirm that JOSS cues are very good cues. Both of my teammates were using Actions cues. One of them was complaining that it was to expensive for him, after a while he was just smiling and beating everybody hehehe

The other guy had Talisman tip installed on his old Actions and he was complaining that JOSS tip is not very good for him but that cue feels very good. We started to play at 7PM and I just got back home, now its 11.30PM. At the end the other guy told me WOW I am starting to love this cue...
I told them that they need at least 2 weeks to adapt to new cue.

I bought Mezz for me. I was thinking to buy JOSS but also I was very close to order on of the cues from http://www.triplecrosscues.com/
Because my firends were looking for lower priced cues we decided to order all from one place: askacue.com

We made great decision and got great price as well as free jump/break cue made by Aska. This is my first break cue and I am not able to compare to others.

I used Viking, played with McDermott, Predator, Actions and Huebler cues as well as with JOSS (today), I think that Mezz is better suite for me than all others that I mentioned.

I found screw on the but and removed it, now it should be 18.5oz and it can not go lower than that, maybe that is only complain for this Mezz because I would love to make it 18oz.
Also after Vikings 13mm shaft I feel a lot more confortable with Mezz and 12.8mm especially for longer distances.

Also this Mezz does not use steal joint, it seems to be older type with different joint type. It is really nice cue and I love it.

Because every season I change cue in order to try more different ones, that would be the case for the next season and next year as well.

Thanks everybody for help!
