I have a couple nice shafts that I have acquired over time that have smaller diameter wood "nipples" than the original shafts that were made for one of my custom cues.

Could a wooden sleeve (collar) be made that would fit and be glued over the current "nipples" and then be cut down to fit SNUGLY inside the joint collar?

The original shafts for the cue have the best-fitting compression joints of any cue I have ever had.

Maybe?

Typical move is to bore out the insert, plug with something, and fit it to the joint

I like micarta or phenolic to do this (ala Schon) since it doesn't wear down against steel

I have had the cue for several years and the original shafts still fit very snugly into the joint.

I think it may take several more thousand screwings before they wear down until they are loose.

No, but you see the track marks of a compression fit joint immediately on a wooden pilot. No hiding it.

Not visible on micarta or phenolic since they don't deform like maple

I am not worried about cosmetics.

I would just like a tight compression.
