building a website... pool question

I've hit a writers block here... I'm compiling a list of places with pool tables (primarily places that have leagues and hold tournaments) and I'm trying to figure out how to structure the information... I've got two terms that I'm working with called "Pool Room" and "Bar" and I'm running into a logic barrier of sorts. What if the Pool Room has a Bar? And what if a Bar has 15 bar tables and is considered to be a Pool Room by the patrons or residents in its area?

Are there other terms I can use to describe those places that I'm just not thinking of? Or at what point does a bar become a pool room? I guess I can always just NOT brand the locations and structure it so that when the content is entered I can just have a selection list of whether it has a bar or not, but I'd like people to be able to limit their searches according to Bar or Pool Room.

Ideas? Anyone following me?

Sounds like a hell of a task you are taking on. But alas here are all the pool nomenclature I can think of:

pool hall
billiards center (yellow pages term)
bar
lounge
sports bar
tavern
pub
recreation center
student center
billiards cafe
cafe
club

That's all I can think of. Hope that helps

4) Alcoholic beverages available yes/no

5) If yes to #4 then a) beer/wine b) full alcohol bar

6) League play available

7) Other games darts, bowling, cards, video, video poker

8) Table or drink specials

9) Music jukebox/karaoke/live

10) Food snacks/dinner menu

That pretty much covers it. If I see beer and liquor in a place with 2 valley bar-boxes, it's a bar. Likewise, 16 9' Brunswicks with beer and liquor tells me it's a pool room. Just describe what the place has, and players will figure out what it is. You might add one more entry for food (snacks, full kitchen, etc

I think the line between Pool Room and Bar is too blurry...I think you should instead use classifications that people may be interested in that are a bit easier to quantify.

Personally I think of a bar as having less tables than a pool room, the tables having a lot more chalk build-up, being noisier in general, and depending on state regulations would be much more likely to allow smoking inside. But that might not be everyone's definition, so I would probably use quantifiable things such as number of tables (further broken down by number of bar tables vs number of full-size tables), cleanliness of tables (or table speed for a more PC term), typical noise level, smoking/non-smoking, etc.

I've got all that... I'm mainly interested in classifications, though... Maybe I just need a break to start thinking clearly haha.

mnorwood: you're getting me on the right track there... Once simplified and grouped I come up with bar and pool room again lol I'm so confused!

There's got to be some terms I'm missing... This is starting to go back to my fundamental theory of popularity of pool and billiards after a discussion of 'what art is' I had with a philosophy professor in that its types are not defined properly... they're simplified and grouped in such a way that its meaning becomes ambiguous... or in other words confusing lol
 
classifications???
Look for the business listing in the yellow pages. It'll be under either billiards, pool , bar, cocktail, club, night club, pub.
 
Pool Room - Pay by the hour with normal cue ball

Bar - Pay by game. Cueball is heavy or oversized.

How to distinguish if both types are available? I'm not sure, but in my experience, These are usually closer to a pool room.
 
It makes more sense to not do the classifications and just stick with my content fields the way they are and allow users to narrow the search that way.... Just didnt realize it (I'm working on four other sites on top of this one... my brain is being overloaded with this crap). So thanks a million for helping me resolve this issue!
