Built a simple Straight Pool scorekeeper — looking for feedback from 14.1 players

Hi all,
Straight Pool has always been my favorite game — there’s something about the rhythm and precision that just hits different. But one thing I’ve always struggled with (especially during longer sets) is keeping score. I’d lose track mid-run, miscount innings, or forget how many points I had in the last rack.

So I decided to build a little scorekeeping app for myself — nothing fancy, just something to make logging shots, fouls, and racks easier without breaking focus. It slowly turned into something more polished, and I figured some other 14.1 fans here might find it useful too.

Here’s what it does right now:
  • One tap to log shots, misses, safeties, and fouls
  • Auto-calculates totals and handles reracks, safeties, good safeties, misses, fouls etc.
  • Tracks your lifetime stats and full game history
  • Lets you scan a QR code to quickly set up a match. (Once you use this, you'll love it)
  • Supports undo and edit in case of mistakes

I’ll include a couple of screenshots below so you can see what it looks like. It’s available on iOS/Android now, but honestly, I’d just love feedback on whether this is helpful to others, or if I’ve missed anything obvious.
Here is the link to the app: https://onelink.to/zqaw7w (This link automatically figures out if you are on Android / iOS)

*If the above link doesn't work for you try direct links:
Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ut.pool.scorekeeper.pool_scorekeeper
IOS: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/straight-pool-scorer/id6742416339

This is just a first version — I’m already working on features like:
  • Shareable scorecards
  • Practice sessions
  • Live scoring for spectators
  • Run highlights and stat trends
  • Compare statistics
  • Find players near you

If anyone here gives it a shot, I’d really appreciate your input — even if it’s just "this is cool" or "this is pointless" 😄
Trying to build something useful for the small but passionate straight pool community.

Thanks,
UT

I've never had issues doing it the old fashioned way...be it beads, or for me, the much preferred score counters, built into the table...unfortunately it appears most new tables being made, no longer have score keeper dials built into the rails like they used to...so, I might have to give our app a shot...

Awesome — I’d love to hear your feedback once you give it a spin!

For me, it wasn’t just about scoring the game (though saving myself from mid-match math is a win 😅). It was also about seeing how I’m really performing — things like:
  • How do I play against certain opponents?
  • Am I actually improving, or just getting better at making excuses? 😂
  • What does my game look like over time?
Right now, the app includes some basic lifetime stats, but I’m actively working on adding deeper analysis and trends — stuff that’ll help us straight pool nerds geek out on our game. So keep an eye out for updates!

I installed the iOS version. It’s insisting I open an account and I don’t see a way to try out the app unless I do. I frankly don’t want to provide my email to open an account. Is there a way to try it without an account?

I like good old fashioned number wheels like on the rail of a GC. Only installed in it's own box.

Use the left hand side for rack score and the right hand side for running total score. You never get messed up this way, the two left hand scores plus the balls on the table always equal 15 and you transfer each rack at the end.

Of course you can operate beads with the same system but I prefer the dials.

Thanks for the honest feedback — that’s totally fair.

The app currently asks for an email so it can associate your account with your lifetime stats, provide you with a quick start match and also help prevent misuse. But I hear you — if that’s creating friction, I’ll work on adding a guest mode so you can try it out without signing up.

I should have an updated version ready in a few days. Really appreciate you pointing this out, and I’ll let you know as soon as guest mode is available!

I sound like another old fart, but I guess I'm just more of a traditionalist than old. I prefer beads first, then dials. Easy.

Your app sounds like a great thing for keeping stats/performance so good luck with it!

Nothing wrong with being a traditionalist @Dan White — beads and dials have their own charm, and they’ve stood the test of time for good reason! 😄

I totally get that preference. The app’s really more of a companion for folks who like to track their stats over time or nerd out on performance data. But whether it’s beads, dials, or pixels, the goal’s the same — enjoy the game and keep improving.

Appreciate the kind words — and hey, if you ever feel curious, you can try the app. Thanks again!

That’s a solid system — I love how clean and logical it is. Using the left dials for rack score and right for the running total is a smart way to avoid confusion, especially mid-match. And yeah, there’s definitely something satisfying about the click of those number wheels on a Gold Crown setup — it’s tactile and timeless 😄

The app isn’t trying to replace that classic feel, but more to offer something for when you're playing with friends, reviewing past games, or just curious about long-term stats. But at the end of the day, whatever helps keep the rhythm and the math smooth is a win in my book!

Thanks for sharing your setup — love hearing how different players track their games!

🎯 New Update: Practice Mode is Live!

Hey everyone — quick update!
I just released a new version of the Straight Pool Scorekeeper with a feature a lot of us can use: 🆕 Practice Mode.

Now you can:
  • Start solo sessions instantly (no need to enter player names)
  • Track your runs, fouls, and innings in real time
  • Screenshot and review your high runs from practice
  • Focus on improving without setting up a full match
Perfect for drills, line-ups, or just chasing that personal best without the hassle.
Would love to hear what you think, and if there's anything you'd like added to Practice Mode — or the app in general — feel free to send it my way!
Thanks again for all the support and feedback.

My Practice HR: 29

Show me yours,
UT

App Feedback

1) Sometimes I forget to switch players and enter score for wrong opponent, I use the UNDO button but have to be careful to not UNDO too much otherwise scores are lost forever. So maybe to help with human error have a REDO button and/or WRONG PERSON button.
2) The one time you go on a high-run and hit the needed max score total and the game stops even though you want it to track your high-run until you miss.

Hey! Thanks so much for the detailed feedback, I really appreciate it!

  1. Player Switching & Undo/Redo: You're totally right about the accidental wrong-player scoring and the "undo too far" problem. A dedicated "Wrong Person" button and a "Redo" function are both excellent ideas! I'll definitely look into those but it actually may add a lot of complications that I will try and work towards like what happened in the turn when the scoring got missed.
  2. High-Run Tracking: That's a great point about wanting to track high-runs even after hitting the game-winning score. I get it, you want to see how far you can push it! I'll look into adding a toggle or option to keep the scoring going even after the win, so you can track those epic runs.
Thanks again for the input! This kind of feedback is super helpful for making the app better. I'll keep you posted on any updates!
