bullit pin

what are the joint pins used in poison cues, bullet ?
Yes, they are called Bullet.
I made a post a month or two ago for the purpose of alerting my fellow tradesmen that these were coming.

From what I've been able to determinme so far, they are very similar to the Uni-Loc. I believe that the thread is the same but the aligning pin is of larger diameter so the Uni insert is not interchangeable. I'm going to check in the next day or two whether the Uni insert can be bored to accommodate the larger pin without sacrificing the integrity of the insert.

There's a little different theory behind these. I've been told that the aligning section of the pin has been changed to allow the shaft to 'float' during connection and permit the flat faces of the joint to determine shaft alignment. This removes the internal stress that occurs when the Uni-Loc pin or insert is not installed DNP. The 'Ghost' pin/insert system shares this theory as well. Those will be a real treat to work on.

Could someone post some detailed pics of the ghost joint? Is the pin a 5/16x14 or is it larger?

Thanks

has uni-loc made the pins and inserts and such available for cuemakers who need to work on the joints or make custom shafts? i know the uni-loc QR and radials are readily available, but have seen nothing about the bullet and ghost joints

And nor will you for about a year, at least that's what I've been told. I've already asked about them but they don't want to let them out just yet. I don't even have them. Guess I'll have to make tooling again. You could always email darrin@predatorcues.com so he knows there's more than just me wondering.

interesting....sounds like a sneaky business tactic. seems like they are trying to control the market by using a proprietary joint and not allowing the parts onto the market for awhile

That explains all the bastard pins out there.
You call the maker for his pin, he might charge you $50 for one.

ghost uni-loc

I picked up a couple of Poison cues ( one with the Bullit pin and one with the Ghost joint), both accept the uni-loc brass inset, it's just a matter of configuring the joint collar size to fit into the butt joint. I'm in the process of making joint protectors as I'm keeping the cue with the Ghost joint cause it hits great due to Poison's double density technology in their shafts ( has minimum throw when playing) . I've made up a shaft holder to clean shafts and will post pics later tonight.

Why would you want minimum throw from a shaft?

Are these pics of the joints accurate?

Walter,
The std. Uni-Loc insert will NOT fit the 'Bullet' pin. I've checked. Also, the 'Ghost' pin, while it's concealed, is of a larger diameter thrd. than the Uni-Loc thrd.

Let us know how you make out with the Jnt. Pro's.

The Bullet pin is actually a little longer than what you have illustrated but not quite as long as the Uni-Loc. Other than that your drawings are close enough for 'show & tell'. Also, the Bullet insert is capped at the back and won't accept the Uni-Loc pin due to it's shallow depth. Another difference is that the Bullet pin is of larger diameter than the Uni pin.

JP's will be ready next week

Hey KJ
I've finally got around to getting pics ( had the cue at the hall). I have the Strychnine model and I've taken a number of pics to give you a good view. The regular uni-loc insert fits perfectly ( 1/2 turn to tighten) and I tooled the pin and removed about .75" of lenght to allow it to fit into the shorter opening. This also fits in perfectly ( also a 1/2 turn to lock up). I have to assume I have the patented uni-loc pins etc, as I bought them directly from uni-loc when they were still selling.
Anyway, enjoy the pics :)

Walter,
Thanx for the pics. They'll benefit some of the readers that want to know about what's being discussed.

I didn't say that the parts couldn't be modified/machined to fit. Stock, off the shelf parts aren't interchangeable though.

1/2 turn to lock may be acceptable for JPs. Shaft to handle connection should be at least 1 full turn. Anything less than that and the 'installed heights' aren't correct.
