Bumpy Rails After New Cloth Install?

I just had the two, lightly used, 5 year old 7' Diamond tables at our HOA recovered with Champion Eliminator cloth.

I found the pocket wraps (4 cuts, is that right?) edge puckered with lose and hanging tails. The tails are secured with some spray glue and duct tape with the glue and duct tape not holding.

Also more of a concern, is the rails (short rails in particular) are lumpy (about a thumb with apart) when you run your hand down the rail. My guess is that they spaced the staples to far apart but I am not sure. The mechanic said that is normal and will go away when the new cloth stretches.

I called the owner of table distributorship who said "these guy are the best" and he is sending them back Wednesday to fix things.

Can I get some advice on what is acceptable and what I should require from this mechanic?

There is no excuse for the cloth "tails", as you termed them, to be loose. When glued properly, they should stick to the slate just fine.

The bumps that you see along the cushions are due to the cloth being pulled too tight at the staple locations. With a better installation process, you can get the cloth stretched tight, without the ripples along the nose of the cushion.

However, the solution to these problems is a balance of knowledge and practice. From what you have stated, I do not have confidence that these guys will satisfactorily correct these issues, though they should at least be able to better attach the cloth in the pockets.

Good luck.

Take the rails off again, turn them upside down, pull one leg of the staple holding the indent in the cushion, this will relax the cloth pull, then place another staple next to the one with one leg pulled out, then pull that staple out...indent will be gone, then have them do that to every single staple they put in because the work was done 100% wrong:rolleyes:

Thanks for the all the insight. I will be there for the rework but thanks to the info, I'll see if they do as you experts suggest. Be sure I'll not accept the the same BS.

I'll post the outcome,

Thanks Again!
