Burl Woods

Robert, I talked with Joe the owner of Cue Component about this and he asked me to pass this on to you as he doesn't post on AZ:

some of the "high grade" Amboyna we've seen in cues posted on AZ is, at best laughable. Thank you and now that you know what high figure is, you'll know what to expect from your cue maker.

Sick wood...literally!

Is it 'high-grade' or 'highest-grade'?

If it is the former, I'd love to see some of the highest grade.

Joe asked me to post a few more pictures enjoy.

The samples we posted yesterday would in all probability score an 8 out of 10. And, they certainly would satisfy 99% of the cuemakers and players out there. Of course, few cuemakers and players see burl of this quality (posted below)because it's costly and most don't stock it nor would anyone purchase it except for the select and well heeled builders, players and collectors. Posted here today would be all the highest grades. These are seldom offered and rarely purchased due to their scarcity.

We post these pictures to inform all of you what you can and cannot expect from a cue builder. Of course we have the woods but only a limited amount available to a select few. Yesterday's pictures would qualify as what you should expect from a cue builder if you want a high grade piece of burl. Most will not be able to supply this grade.

The Red Amboyna Forearm section shown below is of the highest grade and Joe is making a custom cue for a good friend utilizing this piece.

We recommend saving these pictures for future reference.
