Burnishing with glass

Anyone here ever try rubbing glass against the shaft for a burnishing effect? I was told by an ol' schooler that he used to used a glass bottle or cup and simply press it against the shaft and smooth it out.

I wonder if this is the best way to get an extremely smooth shaft.

I know that they sell little rods for smoothing out bumps and what have you, but not for smoothing/burnishing.

Dont do it..... Yes it may "feel" smoother, but what you are doing is taking a small dent, and making it a bigger dent with feathered edges. You are creating more damage when you "burnish" a shaft this way.
There are several good methods of removing dents, from steam to a drop of water on the dent. These methods swell the dent back out, not make it worse.

I usually use that method, but I wasn't planning on using glass to just smooth out dents. I just want a highly burnished shaft that will resist dirt and moisture. I usually just use leather, but I thought that glass might be the highest level of burnishing possible. Do you object to this method?
