Burton Spain cue

Today, playing with my wife in my favorite hall, there was another guy with my hair color (grey) practicing on another table. He was shooting with a good looking cue, 6 points, 3 high, three low. I asked about it...he'd had it made to his specs by Burton Spain. More conversation, told him I was happy with my Josey, asked if he wanted to hit a few. He did, then returned the favor.

All I can say is...anybody out there lucky enough to have a Burton Spain cue...hang on to it! What a sweet hit...:)
 
Burton is the reason for Joel Hercek's successful career in cue-making.
Joel happens to a cue-maker that rings my bell louder than anyone.
 
I remember Marie's Golden Cue in Chicago had several Burt Spain cues for sale in the early 70's. IIRC, they were priced under $50. Wish I had known better back then! Stupid me...bought my first cue (Meucci) from Dixie Billiards in Harvey IL for $90. LOL

I had one with the screws in the shafts. Mine had nice balance and a very soft hit. I sold it, but it's one of the few I regret selling. They are a good deal for a legacy cue maker of his stature and I think they will continue to grow in value.

Got my Spain at 17, and kept it for over 30 years. Sold it a few years back after Joel refinished it. I was too afraid of scratching it, and I don't like "garage queens", so she needed to find another home ;)
