I thought all Balabushka cues had a steel lag bolt at the A joint coming from the forearm to the handle. Ernie showed me one disassembled at Ginacue a few years ago that he was repairing and the bolt looked different than the one in the xray. I must add that I know very little about Balabushka cues.

I think that he may have used different bolts at different times. I have seen an Xray of an early cue that had what looked like a Furnature bolt in it. I suspect that his later cues used a different bolt at the A-Joint.

The bolt/screw pictured at the A joint is known as a Wood to Wood or Dowel Screw. Can you find a picture or describe the furniture bolt/screw? Do you have access to the X-ray which had this bolt/screw? Any information would truly be appreciated.

X-rays are nice, but the removal of all doubt comes from Pete's opinion. The cue is close enough to justify sending it to him for a final answer.

Sorry, I do not have access to that Xray, but it was much more course than that pictured.

I just want to thank everyone for their input. I also want to apologize if I offended anyone with this thread. I truly meant no disrespect. I wanted to educate myself as well as trying to protect my interest. I probably crossed a line in posting the pics of the X-rays. And after talking with a fellow collector (whom I have the utmost respect for), I realized the possible risks and immediately removed the links and the pictures from the web. He has given me the proper path to fulfill my quest. Thanks again to all who have shared their knowledge and helped me on this journey.

I am glad you posted them

Things like that should be comon knownedge. A edudcated buyer is always a smart buyer. The smarter the buyer the more a origional is worth.
All this secret knowledge is good if you are taking advantage of the situation. But usually only profits the buyer looking to make a killing. I wish everyone knew what they were looking at. Values would then rise. Copies would be worthless if every one knew a copy when they saw one!
Thanks Riki,
Nick :)

The flip side is now everyone can make a fake that is too close. That is why the knowledge was kept at the vest pocket, not because there were killings to be made, but to stop the raping that would take place.

The cue was indeed a Balabushka if I read your statement correctly?
