Busta and Hohmann: Do You Remember?

The critical moment for Hohmann en route to the 2003 World Championship in Cardiff came (in the quarterfinals, I think) when he trailed 10 - 6 in a race to eleven against a pretty accomplished player. That player's name was Francisco Bustamante. Tonight they play and the winner will get to play either Immonen or Owen for the US Open hot seat.

Was anyone on the forum there in Cardiff to see that classic match or even watching it on televsion? What do you remember about it?

oh yes

i remember this match quite well although not all the details ofcourse. when it was 10-6 in favor of busta, he missed an easy 5 ball that he tried to make in the side pocket. that one error really proved to be so costly for busta. i hope he'll exact vengeance this time.

Different day, same story, Countess. Hohmann has broken Francisco's heart again, knocking him to the loser's bracket. Hohmann will play Gabe Owen for the hot seat.

oh i haven't checked the results. i'm disheartened as well; aggravated by mika's loss to owen. anyway, these two must still be in contention.

Not anymore

Yes CountessDracula,
I'm disheartened too. We get attached to the players we know. And when newcomers to the field join them... disappointement. Or worse. Tomorrow, I guess, Neils Feijen will take Corey Deuel and Hohmann, Gabe Owens. It will be very hard for the people in the "B" bracket. At any rate, Gabe Owens is, by far, the winner in this thing. Red carpet for the newbies!

A veritable Freudian match

Hey sjm, how are you.
I, of course, no nothing of the details concerning the quaterfinals match in Cardiff. I did, however, do some internet search on their record against each other: Bustamante vs Hohmann. I do not know who has got the lead between them though Bustamante won a few following the WPC, but I did find out something interesting. Apparently, Bustamante and Hohmann had a mentor-pupil relationship, respectively, at some point in Germany. And Hohmann happens to have a Pinoy cousin-in-law. Curious. Aside from that, I wish to repeat what I heard from a fellow spectator in Queens, at the latest Big Apple 9 Ball Challenge: "Hohmann has the prettiest stroke, ever!"
