The Hampton Ridge Tour hosted a successful tournament this past weekend, a 59-player field consisting of a 14-year-old who hits 'em strong, Hampton Ridge Tour regular hot shots, and international pool stars, right there in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Castle Billiards was rock-and-rolling all weekend long. The tournament was played out on 11 tables, double-elimination format, race to 9, and as is customary, Tournament Director Jose kept the festivities running smoothly, with very little wait times.

A young 14-year-old by the name of Michael Tasado put on a GREAT showing in front of an excited crowd of onlookers, and many of the veterans were impressed with his demeanor. This youngster is one to watch on the horizon.

The Calcutta was a nice complement to the tournament payouts, paying out three spots. Francisco Bustamante went for the first blind bid. Calcutta payouts: first place, $1,000; second place, $700; and third place, $530.

Francisco Bustamante is gearing up for his appearance at the Mohegan Sun Challenge along with Efren Reyes and others. What a great running start for Bustie on his current road trip: winner of Masters, $5,000; Scott Frost contributions [undisclosed amount], and now the first place monies from the $2,500-added Hampton Ridge Tournament which paid out $1,700 for first place, NOT including the Calcutta dime.

Santos came in second place and pocketed a $1,000 for his performance. Danny "Kid Delicious" Basavich came in third and collected $600. Hampton Ridge Tour regular Lee Holt beat some tough players to come in fourth, receiving $400. Skins Championship Super Winner Niels Feijen came in fifth/sixth.

The match between Niels Feijan and Kid Delicious was neck and neck all the way. Racing to 9, Niels shot ahead 6 to 4, but Danny never gave up and tied him, 7 to 7. When the dust settled, Danny advanced to the next round, 9 to 7.

Some of the other combatants were UPA Touring Pro Mike Davis, 2004 BCA Open Champion Tony Robles, Maryland's sweetest player Shaun "The Shirt" Wilkie, Young Gun Matt Krah, Handsome Frankie Hernandez, and Veteran Teddy Garrahan.

The Hampton Ridge Tour has a new sponsor for the next season and will go by the name of the "Blaze Tour." The popularity of this regional tour is expanding to include the States of Maryland and Delaware in addition to Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York in what will be its third season. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of Jose Burges, the tournament director, I predict some good times up ahead on the Blaze tournament trail! :)

Maryland 14.1

Thanks for the update JAM. I'm looking for something similar about the Maryland 14.1 tournament this weekend at Bill and Billies. Did you hear anything?

LOL. I just saw it, whoops. After you and Keith left Laurel the other night, I played Ryan a race to 100 for $25 with him giving me 25 balls to get him tuned up for the event. I was winning 98 to 61 with a simple 8 in the side, then the break ball from the next rack for the win. However, I forgot to keep track of my score. I wasn't even thinking about it because I had such a big lead. So, of course, I try to force the 8 in the side to get a good angle for a break shot on the next ball. I miss the eight, go to the counter to add up my score, and realize that I would have won the game. Somehow, I knew that might be a problem, but I still figured that I would be able to win the match. Well, I was wrong. Final score Ryan 100, me 97. Wow, I wish I wasn't such an idiot.
