Busting phenolic tips on cheaper break cues

Hi All,

Relative to most of the people I play with, I have a fairly hard break. 1st break cue I bought was a $70 3 piece jump/break (can't recall brand) with a phenolic tip. I busted the original tip after a couple years as it started to splinter down the side. I put on a couple replacements and those busted as well. Just bought a cheaper j&j dedicated break cue and after about a year it is splintering down the side as well.

Is this a fluke or have others experienced the same thing with cheaper break cues?

Trying to determine what to do next.

Thanks

Learn how to break correctly, and this will quit happening to you. The break is not about brute force. If it was, the strongest person would be the best breaker. That's not the case. It's about people with perfect timing. Quit trying to "crush" the rack (in other words, back off on how hard you're trying to hit the CB), hit dead center on the CB, shoot straight at the head ball. Those three things will result in a better break, and will discontinue your problem with destroying equipment.

Try a white Diamond tip.

Thanks Scott. I have found luck with 3/4 speed break and adjusting my top to bottom.

I have been basing the approach in question in part on English blackball players. I thought since snooker pays the bills, I might follow their approach.

However though it is not producing results.

What do you think is the average percentage of potential power on the break for most pro 8 ball players? Obviously subjective.
