Butt ?? is it warped or just needs to be respliced?

Hi, I have a samsara cue, when I hold down on the butt cap of the cue and roll it there is a gap that appears from the joint to just above the wrap and if I hold down on the joint end of the butt there is a gap from the butt cap end to the start of the wrap.

What I want to know is, is this what they fix when they do a resplice?? or how is this fixed?

First thing that comes to mind is the wrap may not be flush with the finish. Get that checked out before you let anyone cut into the cue.

"resplice"? You talking about having a new handle put on the cue?

Does the gap vary when rolled as it sounds like a compound taper? If the gap does not vary then their is no problem, the cue is just built with old school compound taper.

Nate first, you have to determine where the problem is. In many cases, where the forearm meets the wrap or the A-joint is the problem. When cues are constructed these days, most cues that have a wrap are jointed at the under wrap at both sides. Where the forearm meets the wrapped area in most cases there is at least a 1 inch tenon either into the forearm from the under wrap or from the forearm into the under wrap and a connection screw. This is a very important connect area, and it must be dead nuts and tight, or due to stress through use the cue will warp or componets will loose alignment at this location.

If this is the problem it can be corrected, by separating the cues forearm from the cues under wrap and reinstalling a completely new under wrap.
Nate I would contact the cue maker, because problems at this location are normally a construction defect. Most cue makers would correct this problem at little or no cost if abuse is not involved.

also if has a lizard or patterned leather wrap that could throw it off.

you should roll it half on the rail or spin it in the lathe first. that would tell you how bad it is, if at all

sometimes the slate on the table is uneven or has a belly and you will see light changes too.

Take it to repairman and have him turn in between centers.
He'll know if there is a warp or just a hump.
