butterfly cues

I don't know much about cue construction to say the least but I do have a question. How come, on butterfly cues and some veneered point cues, the veneers seem to blend or bleed over into one another? Never understood that.

Can you pat a pic of the points you reference? I think they are constructed the same way butterflys are, so while they may be positioned where points usually are, they are actually butterflies.

The blending has to do with how the woods are spliced/ cut together, which is different than traditional points. It is my understanding that joining 2 pieces with a butterfly is a more simple type of construction.

But then again, I don't know, really!

Me neither and I wish I could tell you why.

The best person to ask is Brent, as he is currently the Premier Butterfly cue maker around these parts.

I know what you mean but think that is more common on the cheaper, and I mean much cheaper, J&J breakers and jump cues and other types.

I doubt that you would see any or as much on a professionally built butterfly.

You could make another post in the Ask the Cue maker Forum and go to Brent's site and have a look at some really, really, really nice ones.

Here is Brent's web site. I think if you look closely, you will see that the points do what might be called as Feathering out a bit. As the blocks, or points get turned down to create the Butterfly effect, the points are the thinnest at the point.

Feathering but not bleeding into one another.

Hope Brent doesn't kick my butt for calling it feathering.
