Perhaps an alternative to being paid in full, the players buy the IPT based on shares. So Efren would hold the largest share unless someone wanted to match what he is owed. The players would need a new promoter (manager) to put the events together. Less payouts in the beginning, but a more viable tour. Just a thought, as there are many things in place with the IPT right now. So they take the 1/3 payment and the IPT.

OK but were is the next prize fund coming from? The tour has been funded by qualifiers and they've completed most of the qualifiers for 2007 and STILL don't have enough to pay Reno!

Really not that hard to fund. I could probably put a plan together. I am sure there more savy promoters who can envision a viable plan.
They already have the IPT memberships, I would expand this to attract more people and other events. Challenge matches ( gambling matches), ring games etc.

Have more players qualify (rather than just 2) based on some point system.
Involve the casinos to help add some money, knowing that they would get big turn outs.

Have some sort of Valley Forge type events accross the country.
Charge a small entry fee for spectators.
Sell merchandise, fans would buy to support such an event.
Work out deal with major suppliers, IPT members get a reduction in purchase price, IPT gets a small % of sales.
Just a few thoughts.

Attract WHO? The few thousand hardcore Pool fans who go to the DCC one a year to see this kind of thing? How will that possibly pay for multi-million dollar prize purses?

How will increasing already enormous fields (200 at Reno) improve cash flow? It makes the events even more expensive and requires a LARGER prize purse, unless you decide to start cutting out payments to the lower place finishes, which actually makes a lot of sense but would wipe out a large portion of players who were willing to try the IPT on a speculative basis.

And they would know this how? Based on what proven Pro (not Amateur) event that's ever had a big (High 5 figures or more) spectator turn out in the Pool industry?

Start small? Grass roots support? Work deals with suppliers? IPT to only get a small cut? That just isn't the IPT way. KT only does things big, and unfortunately that includes lies and failure as well as dreams and successes.
