Buyer Beware...It's George on Fleabay

I've never seen a '-V' on a George case. It looks like the '-V' was put on there by an owner. The case certainly looks otherwise as advertised. Why again do you think this is a ripoff?

-V means vinyl

Per Mr. Tate's palmercollector.com page the -V means vinyl. Looking back thru this guy's feedback, he's had some misrepresentation issues in the past.

********edit.. ooh.. lol.. somebody beat me to it while i was posting this..

I contacted the seller asking him if this is Vinyl or Leather and he said that he thought it was vinyl, but didn't know how to tell.

Obviously someone has tried to cover up the fact that it is vinyl by scraping out the -V. Is it this guy or some previous owner?? Don't know....

Now, it doesn't look like he made an effort to post my question anywhere though....even though I told him that it was vinyl!

My opinion

I think that the V means that the case is vinyl and not leather. In the ad he never claims the cue case to be made of leather or vinyl. I think if you were expecting leather and he had it described that way maybe your point would be valid. Just bid on the case knowing that it is not leather but rather made of vinyl and I think you would be okay. In addition you could email him and ask what the case is made of and then decide to bid or not from there.

This guy looks like he is trying to rip people off, you can plainly see the "-V" has been scraped off the bottom of the case.

Not sure if he is a member here or not, but seems dishonest to me.

I would have never noticed that if you didn't mention it. If I would have bid on this case to get it, I would be out the shipping, and probably several hours of my life.

I would like to add, that although I love George cases and own 10-various 3 x 6, 2 x 4, & 1 x 2 leather cases, the vinyl It's George-v cases like this are really crappy, the vinyl is very cheap, light & stiff. The only good thing about the one I ordered, was that it got damaged in shipping, so I only had it for about a day.

But it's not a ripoff attempt. Nothing was misrepresented by the seller...? There's a good chance he got the case like this.

He never said it was leather. I'm just saying, don't call the guy a con artist on the WORLD wide web without actual proof.

Steev,

At the bottom of Chris's page is a picture of what I am talking about. With ANY research at all, you can figure out that the case is indeed vinyl. All he has to do is ask around. Also, why would you scratch off the "-V" unless you were trying to misrepresent the case is my point.

It may not be him, but possibly the previous owner...but my point is...ASK if you don't know and then state the facts clearly in your auction.

For the record, I have even seen the vinyl cases bring decent money.

I still don't see what the guy did wrong (assuming he wasn't the one to scratch off the '-V', which I think we should do).

oh well.

I agree with Steev, There is no evidence that he is trying to scam,
it is an George case, And you all have done a wonderful service.
in pointing out that it is Vinyl. Johnf_34 asked the seller and he responded that he thought it to be Vinyl. I dont see why you are accusing him of the scam

Rebate

The guy is also offering a rebate if the buyer is not satisfied. It's just not right to throw this guy under the bus for something that is an assumption. He honestly answered Johns question about the V, what more can you want?

The point is that the "V" for vinyl was scratched off, and the9ballroller was pretty observant to pick up on it. If you saw one of the vinyl George cases, it is so obvious that they are not leather, that they feel like plastic. I think the seller was dancing around the issue, and had to be asked if it is leather. I am always the first one to give people the benefit of the doubt (to a fault) but the vinyl George cases are really crappy. This type of warning seems a little harsh, but if anyone has one of these vinyl cases you know what I mean, and the "V" was scratched off. I have never seen anyone do that on AZB, and I doubt that anyone would try it. If I posted one of these cases for sale on AZB with a scratched off V, I don't think the old I was out of the room when it happened thing work sit very well.

Yea it was either scratched off or colored in. I would bet an attempt was made to color it black as scratching/sandpapering would show up even more.

Some of these cases came that way, where the "v" is barely visible. I've seen enough to know it's pretty common. They might have had the caps already made at the factory, then stamped the "v" on afterward to identify vinyl.

I've also seen some George vinyl cases where there is no "v". If you get one, it's pretty easy to tell because the vinyl cases are really light compared to the leather cases. Plus you can look inside the pocket (as the photo shows) and you will see woven fabric, not suede.

Chris

dont think its a scam. i just think he is uneducated on the products as much of the rest are. not many -v cases around. ive seen two. they were junk compaired to the leather ones. prob didnt hold up long. one i saw fell all apart with strings and stitches falling out. that was 12 yrs ago

He says he won the case giving somebody the 3-5-7 wild I wander if he would like to lose it the same way, I'll take the 3-5-7 wild playing 9 ball and put up whatever the case brings against it.
