Buying a new cue

I am looking at purchasing a sneaky peat made by a local cuemaker. I was told all his sneaky peats are made out of old house cues. I am unsure if this is a common practice. If anyone out there has a sneaky made from a old house cue please post if your are happy with your cue. I have wanted a cue from this person for years, price is the determining factor in my decision. I really appreciate any help from AZB community thanks in advance.

That's the way most are done. You get the cuemakers taper and shaft on a house cue butt. Some make thier own blanks, but you pay more for those.

It is very common for cue makers to do this. I have at least 5 cues made from old house cues and they have been very solid players.

I just bought a new unchalked Joss "sneaky" on ebay for 165.00 the reason I did was I wanted the shaft, so I just figured its a no brainier, why not try Dans PH handled sneaky as well "thats the price of a standard Joss shaft anyway". I want the shaft to extend the taper on but didn't want to commit my others to a turning. For 165.00 a Joss sneaky is hard to beat, but its not a converted house cue.

they dont just take any old house cue and make a sneaky out of.. most that are converted are probably one of the best house cues they can find.. as far as figure, straightness and what not..

for what most cue makers charge for a sneaky pete, it wouldnt be cost effective to splice your own blank..

there are many cue makers that wont even make a sneakt pete because they feel there time is better spent making a more expensive cue...

but i think with the recent turn in the economy, cue makers will start being alittle more flexible in making what a customer wants...
