Buying Ivory Cue Parts

Can anyone tell me a good source for buying ivory cue parts - joint, ferrule sized pieces, etc.? Also, what are your experiences buying these materials? Are there any sources or people to avoid? Thanks for any help.

I don't think it would be cool to mention names, but yes, there are some people to avoid. Ivory is a little different than other components in that you need to get it from someone that knows what GOOD ivory is, and what is not, as well as HOW to cut it correctly for cue parts. If you don't get good parts that are cut well, you will have headaches down the road for sure.

I have bought from several and have convinced myself that there is only one source for ivory, that being David Warther. He runs a museum and ivory is his life. He does nothing else. He is the authority in my opinion, not to mention he is top notch on the customer service aspect.

Here are the last prices he emailed me, along with his contact info:

Ferrules are $ 17.50. Joints are $ 35 . Butt caps are $ 75 . These are round and are oversize. I also offer the joint and butt cap round stock in 4 to 5 inch lengths for cue makers who desire to part off their own lengths. Joint rod stock is $ 35 per linear inch and butt cap stock is $ 75 per linear inch.

Inlay slabs are available in two sizes. Regular slabs are usually 4 to 5 inches in length and of varying widths. These are $ .88 per gram which equates to about $ 3.25 per square inch when cut at 1/8 inch thick. The long point stock slabs are usually 10 inches in length and are $ 1.00 per gram (about $ 3.75 per square inch.). Slab stock can be cut to any thickness requested. I cut slabs of respectable widths however the widths do vary from piece to piece. I generally do not accept requests for specific widths but most often a cue maker will ask for a " total of so many inches of width " and I cut to meet that request . If 10 inches are needed it may be 5 slabs 2 inches wide or 7 slabs 1 1/2 inches wide.

Real point stock is $ 8.50 per linear inch when cut at .400 inches square. It is $ 11 per linear inch when cut at .500 inches square.

If you have any questions feel free to email ivorybuyer@adelphia.net or call. My number is 330-343-1865 .We accept Paypal , credit cards , money orders , etc.

Well said... David is IT for ivory, as far as I'm concerned. He's treated me very well, and has been extremely helpful every time I've asked him anything.
If you build quality cues, you want quality components. Let the production guys buy the cheap, lower quality stuff to try and save a few bucks. Custom cues deserve the best components available!

Thanks, guys. I had heard pretty much the same thing and it's good to have your experiences with Mr. Warther. Appreciate the info.

The stuff he sells on ebay, are the last cuts and odd size pieces. Usually lower quality than what he fills orders with.
He is good to work with and will cut special orders for handles, or any thing else you need. He has always treated me professionally and fair.
