If a team does not show up to play causing a forfeit. What does APA rules state is suppose to happen? In my local league the team that did show up can pay the other teams $40 and receive all the points. Is this the way it is suppose to be done? If this is correct according to the rules, do they have to pay that night or can they wait until later?

I Had Bad Info see post # 12

 What! That's crazy. In our area when I played apa, If the other team didn't show we would get 3 points on 8 ball & 60 points on 9 ball and both teams had to pay there own dues for the forfeit. Your area rule is BS, if you go into the final two weeks, neck to neck with the 2nd/3rd place team you could just by your way in to the Tri-cups/cities.

if im not mistaken, in the bucks county and montgomery county APA in PA. if a team fails to show, they will forfeit each match at a spread of 5-15. so to reiterate the team that does show will receive 75 points, and the team that hadn't will get 25 points.

now i dont quite understand why the no-shows DESERVE any points at all. ive never heard of buying points. albeit ive never had a opposing team not show up. i have had only 3-4 people from a team showup, where we played the normal amount of matches and the matches they werent able to cover we earned an automatic 15-5 split. about 4 years ago there was a team in PA that only had 4 players show up each week. all run out players, they would smoke any team they played. i mean badly. and even givinup a 15-5 forfeit in the end they still usually won like 70/30. they only made it to the 5th week before they got DQd and disbanded...

I am going to due some searching but I believe APA rules say the team that forfeits still has to pay for that week. This being the case I might could see a team getting points. But in a league where there are an odd number of teams the week that your team gets a buy you still only get a 60/40 and 3/5 split.

I need to do some searching through APA manuals and rules.

same as a regular forfiet but x5 matches. In 9ball a forfiet is a 12-0 match. so x5 = 60-0 and yeah, you still pay for that nights matches. Buying all 100 possible points by paying the other teams fees is a rediculous scam. If Im reading this correct, the idea that that is even a possibilty puts me on tilt.

I just read our bylaws and in team 8 ball a forfeit of all 5 matches in 8 ball gives the team who showed 4 of the 5 points unless its the last week in which they only receive 3 of the 5. It does not mention 9 ball. I will be asking about the buying part tonight at league.

That is just crazy!!!

In our APA 8 ball league, if a team forfeits the match(does not show up), the other team must pay their nightly dues($35), and you get 3 points for the win and one bonus point for turning in your paperwork on time - so a total of 4 points.

The team that forfeited owes their $35 weekly fee, and cannot get a bonus point any week, until their dues are paid in full.

But paying both teams dues seems to be ridiculous.

Your team was there, and followed the rules, SO:

1. Why would your team need to pay both dues to get any points?

2. Why are you responsible for the other team's inability to follow the rules?

Sounds like a scam by your LO to me, to keep all his incoming profits, and help teams that cannot follow the rules, while punishing the good team by making them PAY!!!!

I would complain, and let the LO know you are not happy.
Any BCA leagues in your area, because I would check them out after this crap.

That is just plain crazy - shows that your LO is only in it for the money, and doesn't care to support the teams that follow the rules and show up every week to pay their dues.

What would happen if the forfeit team made playoffs, and won the Vegas trip, even after forfeiting a few weeks?

JMHO

This is how it works for us, as well. The team that showed up pays their regular $40, and gets 4 of the 5 points in 8-ball. Plus the bonus point for paperwork on time, I believe, as well. Doesn't happen very often so I don't recall exactly, but this seems familiar to me.

I am just learning but I believe the team that shows has the option of paying the other teams fees thus getting the points and the forfeiting team pays nothing.

I will have some answers tonight as we are playing against the LO team.

Still sounds fishy to me. I'd be happy with the 3/4 points on a forfeit and still pay our $35 per format. Not happy paying the $35 and not even playing but chit happens. Plus, our LO wasn't allowed on a Apa team or to run one??? Anyone else's do this??? Ron.

Sorry for my misinformation. When A forfeit takes place the team that shows up must pay "their own" nightly fees in order to get the forfeit points. They can choose to reschedule if both teams agree.

As for LO on a team he is not the Actual LO for the division but handles our 11 teams.
