None of them will ever bother to post here unless provoked

dead no, just hard to grow since everything is so expensive and consumes so much space for expensive nich hobby
In the us anyways

The rest of the world found a way to make money off it or supported by money laundering schemes

More 3c business have opened around DC in the last 3 years than in the 20 yrs before that.

The pro 3c matches on YouzTube get LOTS of views.

Dennis was a friend of mine and I was really fond of him, as nuts as he was. But a visionary, he was not. We've argued quite a bit over this, the "decline" of 3C. It's simply not true. DD couldn't look past the US, where 3C would be dead if it wasn't for immigrants. But there has been tremendous growth of the sport in South Korea and Vietnam, in Turkey and in Colombia. The PBA has just about doubled the number of players worldwide who can live off their sport. The UMB, in the past eight years, has doubled World Cup and World Championship prize money twice. The most serious problem is Western Europe, the traditional stronghold, where more rooms close than open and the average age of club members is dangerously on the rise. Some 5 - 10 years from now, when the careers of Blomdahl, Jaspers, Zanetti, Sayginer and a few others are over, that development could become more painfully visible.

As Frank Zappa would say: "3 Cushion is not dead, it just smells funny" 😂🤣

Ok, maybe he said that about jazz, but you get it. But for those that didn't know, they are just finishing a West coast series of three tourneys back to back. Beginning at College Billiards in San Diego and ending at Jimmy's in Milpitas (formerly Edgie's) that is finishing this weekend. It seemed to be well received with many fine players.

Mazin's organization (3C USA) puts on 2 or 3 tourneys at a resort in Yuma, AZ that I believe had over 50 entrants last event. I will be playing in the next one in January traveling with my wife.

Mazin also will be organizing a huge tournament in Madison, WI in September I think where Dick Jaspers will be playing. Mazin also host several tourneys in his room near Boston, Amazin Billiards.

Bert can speak to the international scene as he already did. Anyway, 3 Cushion still smells funny but tastes sweet. 😘

The popularity may not matter for a lot of us. By the time you accept it as your hobby you are already at a high enough level in cue sports to recognize 3C as a peaceful mental exercise rather than a competitive grind to the top. Just like gardening or fishing, it becomes personal.

No One that plays 3C at a 'High Level' does it just for a 'hobby!'

I think you may not understand the 'High Level' 3C game.

This Man knew what 3C was, even in the 19th Century.

Abner Finn who wrote this about billiards.

“It is a science—the study of a lifetime, in which you may exhaust yourself, but never the subject.

“It is a contest, a duel a melee, calling for courage, skill, strategy and self-control.

“It is a test of temper, a trial of honor, a revealer of character.

“It affords a chance to play the man and act the gentleman.

“It means physical exercise, a sweeping away of the mental cobwebs, genuine recreation of the tired tissues.

“It’s a cure for care an antidote to worry.

“It includes companionship with friends, club intercourse, opportunity for courtesy and fairness to an opponent.

“It promotes not only physical health, but moral force.”

Nobody seems to know who Finn was or how well or even if he played. But reading his words one gets the feeling of how mystified he must have been even back then to realize the complexity of a game that only has a wooden stick, 3 round spheres and a flat surface and the intellect to create the thousands of computations in a split second just to score a single billiard. To this day, it still amazes me after 45 years what I learn and find extremely fascinating about this never surrendering adversary, BILLIARDS.”

I said, “high enough”. A lot of us aren’t going to quit our lucrative careers to become world class players just to satisfy Mr. Bill’s idea of what billiards needs to be. Many of us are happy learning at our own pace for the benefit of peacefulness and relaxation while maintaining other life interests and family.

In the USA, a 'Casual/Hobby minded/amateur' player is around 0.500-0.750 average in tournament/gambling play.

Gambling at 3C was 'Very Lucrative' for me!

Personal achievements for me in Nationwide tournament play in 82, 83 were 'Record Breaking' for that era!

BTW, All on 'Unheated' Brunswick 3C tables.
