Player A calls the 9 and makes the 9 in another pocket. The 9 spots.

Does player A keep his turn?

Is there an official rule or is this just gambling rules? I dont think offical 9 ball rule make you call the 9.

Regarding the second question, yes the shooter is still at the table assuming he made a legal hit on the lowest numbered ball on the table, whether or not that was the four ball.

Shouldn't one be punished by losing his turn if he calls the 9 and misses it, but makes something else? Otherwise, wouldn't this suggest that one should call the 9 in the most likely pocket on every shot, just in case it happens?

Nope didn't get hoodwinked. I wasn't even playing just happened to be the best player there at the time so I was asked.

I matched your response. Just wanted to make sure I was not making the wrong ruling.

I think so, but calling the 9 on every shot is not a rule violation. Just a violation of not being annoying.

That's exactly what it means. I played a game wherein the 9 was right near a pocket, 2 different times I had a slight angle that MIGHT have dropped it for me after hitting the lowest ball...I certainly had no problem calling it both times, and the person I was playing didn't mind either.

I wish some of the people that run tournaments around here would read this post.I play in a handicapped 9 ball tournament once a week and if you make the nine in a pocket you didn`t call then it spots up and you keep shooting.I ask the tourn. director why you get to keep shooting and he said because you still made a ball.I have lost several times on the hill to someone I had to race 6-3.They call it in the corner and miss it then it goes 2 rails in the side and the cueball ends up near the spot and when the 9 is spotted they are straight in.

I'm sure you have already gone a few rounds with them, but try expaining that it's either call 9 or slop 9. It can't be both at the same time. If you make it in a pocket other than called, you missed. Period. Other guys turn.
