Why is there no section for Newbies?

I have been reading the boards for a couple of months and have had a difficult time finding information that I need. I really do not want to ask stupi questions.

I think it will be beneficial to have a Newbie section with Stickies covering topics like, Equipment, Leagues, Practice tips. and so on.

I am amazed at the knowledge on these boards but for some reason it is pretty intimadationg (to me at least) to ask stupid or Newbie questions.

Fire away, brother... you shouldn't get flamed for asking legit questions. Simply preface your initial post in a thread that you are a newbie.

Thanks for the confidence boost but I guess my issue is two parts '

1. Asking questions, which you addressed but also
2. A place were we can go and read threads that can bring us up to speed.

Thanks for the response.

I agree with Dave, ask away.

A few of my favorite features:

Search - advanced
Attaching multiple photos were you can see them all
Subscribing - triple nutz
Avatars
User CP ( control panel) - Very important
Reputation vs I trader

(can illustrate) :D

I am kinda new on here as well and I have asked many questions and everyone has been really helpful. No one has ever told me it was a stupid question even though i bet some people thought it was dumb or too basic they just helped me out.

Feel free to ask questions. I'm sure the people on here will help you out.

That can be tough one, because many threads are complex with snips and puns from numerous forum events.

Subscribe to threads would be a start. I get text message notification with a brief summary every time someone posts in a thread that I do.

Advanced Search is also VERY good for specific things.

For #2, there is a SEARCH function here... when inside a Forum, you are searching inside that forum... when inside a thread, you are searching inside that thread.

So, pick the appropriate forum for the subject that you are looking for... and click on "Search this forum", which opens a text input window... and type in your keywords... and then hit "go".

i haven't been here that long and i just asked what i had to to ask. no one cracked on me and no one can answer every question so you usally end up with a few different people giving you what you need. it just takes time to weed through everything. and the search function is your friend.

Everyone is kind and gentle here.

serilusly though most people here are nice - and the ones who aren't usually get run off pretty quick.

Thanks for the feed back. I have been using the search feature and reading those threads, but there are a lot of good threads that should be stickies or put in a designated section for newcomers.

I guess I'll have to just ask! Thanks!

What is a "newbie"?

A newbie is refered to a "new" user to a forum that doesn't have the experience as others. They usually have general questions that have been asked a million times or need things explained in more details. One example would be that newbies do not know what vCash or iTrader points or how to get good or bad reps.

Didn't catch the sarcasm, huh?

Well, first of all, welcome to the boards, may you never get bored or banned from the boards. Next, have you checked out the rest of the AZ site for instruction and articles? There is some very useful and helpful information on there as well, specifically if you're new to the sport. By your post, I'm assuming that's kind of what you mean and what you're looking for in addition to just a social gather place.

As you can see, I'm fairly new too. Just reading the posts and searching for keywords will eventually bring you up to speed a little bit, but I know exactly what you mean. It's kind of intimidating, especially a few months ago when things were pretty heated and there seemed to be a lot of b*tching and taunting and arguing. I was afraid to post anything because I didn't want people to attack me for my inexperience and ignorance. :yikes: But things seem to have simmered down quite a bit and everybody seems to be playing nice.

When you see a thread that peaks your interest, you can search for the same or similar keywords and see if it's been discussed before in or in a different manner. Haven't heard it in awhile, but some of the old dogs are fond of telling the newbies to use the search feature and that makes you feel like a dumb-ass. As you read through threads you'll start to notice people's style and opinions and demeanor. Take me for example, my posts are loooooong, but I have a lot (of nothing) to say. If you click on a posters name you can view their profile and read through their past posts, that's fun sometimes. And you can look at the member list as well, see how long they've been around, who has the highest post counts or rep.

Best of luck and have a great time here!

I'm a newbie also, an old newbie, lol. Having pretty good luck reading books, have read several and have more on the nightstand.

I find that i can now sometimes follow the posts here:grin:

I'm a newbie, too.... but kind of like learning things as I go instead of reading a whole section on stuff I would rather stumble upon (mostly cuz I don't have time).

But I do have one question I haven't figured out yet - what does "bump" mean?

Oh and gnatnoop - man - that's an AWESOME avatar!! I feel like doing a google search now for some reason. LOL!

Because of the pace of the posts in the various forums, a thread will quickly move off of the first page. A "bump" will put the thread back at the top of the first page. It's used in the buy/sell forum to keep an item active, and in other forums to keep a thread on people's minds.
