To any of you guys who live around Dallas.. I've been kicking around the idea of taking up cue making as a hobby. Would any of you friendly chaps be willing to meet up with me sometime, give me some advice, show me around your shops, etc? I would be happy to treat you to dinner, maybe a beer over at the Saucer in Addison, etc :)
Would just be great to get some first hand knowledge and advice on the craft, and maybe make a few new friends.
thanks!!

It's an expensive hobby!! If you pursue it the best advice any cuemaker can give you is ---- the FIRST purchase needs to be GOOD dust collection, respirator, spray booth - don't scimp on these. The materials and finishes can effect your health - like kill you if you aren't careful. Read the article about "you want to make cues" that is on the American Cuemakers Association website, www.cuemakers.org --- it will give you some insights. Good luck and do take care.

I think Jim Odom is in Dallas....But I'm not sure. Maybe paul sumrall as well. If you ask around I'm sure there will be people that tell you.

cjarmst, call around to the billiard/pool halls and ask who does cue repairs/ cuemaking. Also check other cuemaker websites for some details. Some cuemaker/suppliers have tapes or book for sale. Dieckman website have all his articles he have wrote http://www.cuemaker.com his wriiten word section is the best.
