Calling Michael Webb ..

Weasel THIS

Mr. Webb:
I have a Viking Window Pane cue from the’70’s with the super joint. Got a wild idea that I’d like to use a carbon fiber shaft and keep the original butt. Haven’t heard back from Viking yet as to the feasibility of this hare-brained idea. I remembered this thread and you mentioned that you have a couple of the joints on hand. If you do, would you sell one, and in your opinion would I be able to get it installed into a carbon shaft?
My email is ricktedford@comcast.net
I appreciate your time and expertise. Take care.

I really don't like selling Cue parts. I'll ask Viking if they mind if I sell one.

I talked to Viking this morning.
My apologies, I can't help.
I only have 2 left and don't want to sell them.
Viking said they have no immediate plans to make them.
Again, my Apologies.

If you did not know, not just any Super Joint shaft will fit another Super joint cue. I have at least three different shafts that will not fully thread onto any of the others. If you find one you will have to make certain it will work with your existing joint.
I usually just have a brass piloted shaft made nowadays.

That's the same problem Viking mentioned.

Sorry for the lapse of comms here, gents. THANK YOU! for the info and replies. I also got the same info from Viking. Worth a shot, tho.
Thanks again for the help.

It dawned on me, after what I've been thru in the past month, why keep them.
My kids have no idea what I have in my shop or what it's used for. I've always kept what I do private from them.
Sorry to hear you feel that way Mike.

I surely do understand after my experience.

Makes you see things very differently.

Hope your feeling better soon!

I understand. Sincerely.

I have turned in recent years to focus on my legacy.

My daughter has been a gem. She understands more than I thought she would, and she is an artist, nothing to do with biomedical sciences. It has been 25 years since I cut a patient open on the table, my altar, now I am just a humble teacher of the Medical Arts.

Maybe, just maybe, people close to you will understand the world you have built with your work more than you might think. Sometimes we get so inside our own box we can't see what it might look like from outside, or how others might see and appreciate it.

Look at all the blank spaces we have to fill from the makers that came before you. We argue and compare. We X-Ray cues. We try to figure out who made what and when. We spend hours examining cues and pictures.

Who you are, what you have done, what you do, what you know, and what you will do tomorrow has value that transcends the wood you turn and screw together.

You have been a valued resource here far beyond what you know, I assure you.

Personally, I am convinced that the Mike we have today will be more than the Mike we had yesterday. Do not dismiss or devalue anything you have or can contribute.

I look forward to hearing more from you. Do hard things, and make shit happen.

Sincerely.

Thank you
I try to share wisely where I'm not really teaching.
They still have to think.
If not, nothing is learned. The lazy people. I just ignore as I don't think they should be working on Cues!
To your last sentence. I had Dave Kikel build me several cues over the years.
He and I would chat about cue making but mostly about finished.

I mentioned to him comments made here about Camatillo darkening over time and he had a god laugh as did I. We both agreed that the correct prep and sealer were essential.

I owned a Camatilllo cue he built and had it refinished several times including by myself. It was 12 years old when I sold it to a collector.

One cue maker claimed it would look like ebony in no time. All false claims it never changed color at all.. Another here insulted me over and over about that cue..

I still get a chuckle over the outrageous stuff some people claim to know!!

Thank you

About as well as can be said. Kudos Doc. 😎👍

I have a new outlook right now.
Let me get back on my feet and I'll sell you a joint
Mr. Webb, sir, I am SO glad to hear you're out of ICU and gettin' better! I'm honored you even took the time to chase me down.
No hurry whatsoever. Not sure I can get P:M's here so at YOUR leisure, when you're MUCH better, look me up and we'll do some "bidness" as we say in TX. Take care. ricktedford@comcast.net
