very true crasher. unless money is posted and out of reach of the loser of the bet it is never for sure yours.

so when you play you make sure you know you will get paid in some way.

that is why i dont play sets. this way you can only get stuck for one game and not even that if the last game is put up.

and not wrong to ask for a certain amount of money to be shown before you start.

Not an unprecedented move. I used to mark my shaft so I could know which way was up. At the start of a match, a pro player complained to the TD that I had an illegal aiming aid. He was told to go play his match. I put a mark next to that player's name on my list.

Nah. I think @Flakeandrun will do better to avoid contact with the irresponsible, confused nit. I suspect that asking for money on the light or someone holding the stake would be interpreted as an insult or worse. Face is a large issue in that pool hall.

Yes, no money on the light, and no loud grumbles, as to gamble is frowned upon. I think the banter has stung enough. My friend said if he’s going to enter another game, there’ll be side bets on whether money even changes hands

Then out of respect for his own honor, he can buy out for that $40?

In hindsight, I could have lowered the stake, and probably gotten a rematch. I think that would have been a way to at least leave with something, and possibly lowering the tension after everyone stopped running their mouths. Offering a spot, would have seen steam coming from his ears I think. I personally was quite upfront and calm about just redoing the game at the same standards, and saw that as the honorable/logical offer at the time, and though I think it was bloody funny, the banter from the sides made it impossible. Asian insults are top-tier.

I think if it was a big stake, I’d want the money posted up somewhere neutral for sure. But this was a pocket money set. Enough to mean something, but not enough to lose any hair over.

US Army 1968 Fort Bragg. I routinely took a debt collector with me when I hit the Battalion Day Room. I had many that thought they weren't going to pay up. My collector was a logger from Oregon, big fellow loaded with muscles and a mean look on his face. They always offered the money right away. Only once did he raise his voice. I had won so much money in a 5 way ring game that both pockets were full. These were unfriendly Mexican fellows from Texas. I tried to leave and they insisted I was not leaving. He stepped forward and said "He's leaving with me and if you don't like it, I'll stack you all up like firewood." Yes, I gave him a cut of the winnings.

To be honest, getting done 9-1 is his issue, not the cash. Playing with a Zen cue with a billion inlays, the latest ridiculous neon BK and air rush. The money is certainly more needed by me I figure he must have been blowing his own horn to his mates, and got a bit butt hurt by reality.

I take it he is not allowed to play money matches there anymore? I couldn’t imagine burning a reputation over welching a $50 bet. Something gamblers are bad about is making known someone who does bad business.
