This is a helluva lot closer to the truth. Ronnie used the name Eddie around California when he first came out here, in about '59. Someone (maybe Jack Perkins) pinned "Fast Eddie" on him because he always wanted to raise the bet.

He came along way before "Fast Eddie" Parker, who didn't adopt that name until AFTER the movie came out.

Interesting. I always thought that "Fast Eddie" was one of the greatest nicknames of all time, but was never sure what was "fast" about him. In the movie Fats says "Now I know why they call you Fast Eddie" after Eddie wanted to play for $200 a game rather than the $100 Fats offered. Always wanting to raise the bet dovetails well with the movie dialogue.

I'm kind of surprised Fast Larry never claimed to be the model for the character.
