Can new az forum members be trusted to not scam a seller through paypal?

I received a $100 offer today from a pretty new forum member that has not received any itrader feedbacks yet, and the buyer offered to send me a paypal payment along with a shipping label that would be emailed to me.

Well, after I confirmed the deal, and received the $100 payment, I decided to do a google search on paypal scams, and I found this thread below.

http://forums.watchuseek.com/f2/beware-paypal-gift-chargeback-fraud-will-defraud-sellers-784828.html

Ever since I recently seen a member I know here tell his story about getting scammed out of an $80 case, I have been scared to accept paypal payments from certain unknown buyers.

I decided to refund the buyer after I read that stuff in that link.

I hope it is not against the rules to post the above link.

I am really sorry if it is against forum rules, and will delete that link if I am told that posting that type of link is against forum rules.

I just wanted to hear some opinions about my situation.

Thanks

That link deals with Gift, which is already noted as not a good idea unless you know who you are dealing with.

Emailing a mailing label is a bit odd usually they just would pay for shipping and you buy the label, but it's still something that shows that a product was sent, although it's not hard to say that it was mailed with nothing in the box.

The link didnt work for me, so I can't comment on the scam part of it, but people have to start somewhere with itrader feedback. I've personally bought a bunch of things on here from many members (all positive experiences) but I'm not sure if I would have bothered had I not been able to use Paypal. It's just so much more convinient, and I've personally never had an issue.

On a side note, I have bought things on ebay using paypal that I never received, and Paypal was always quick to refund my money. This is a major reason why I prefer the security of Paypal.

If you're nervous or it is a big ticket item, there is always escrow service available.

I do however, agree that it should be the seller's choice at how they would prefer to be paid. At that point, if the buyer doesnt want to pay that way, all parties should be free to make other deals.

Just my $0.02

It was my fault, and my idea to have the buyer send me the payment as a gift (thinking that I would be protected from a credit card charge back). Well, the buyer has now paid me the regular way (with his address attached to his paypal payment). I am just really tired, and kind of freaked out a little because of my trust issues. Sorry for creating this silly thread.

Don't feel bad. There is a reason www.paypalsucks.com exists, and it's from all the people who have been burned. No harm in being cautious.

I email the label often. I have a work shipping deal and can fedex a letter for $5.13 anywhere in lower 48 and ~$30 for a cue.

I find it interesting that this person is the same person I had problems with. I refer to the following thread.
Only thing I can say is be careful...........

Dont be spiteful...you emerged unscathed!

There is nothing to see there, other than the seller freak out about paypal's nooks and crannies.

The seller was paid, did not ship an item and refunded the $, rather than face any risk. Funny thing is, the only one with any risk in that transaction was the buyer.

Paypal is not going to reverse payment sent as a 'gift'. As I recall, when you send $ that way, the system informs you that the transaction, once submitted, cannot be reversed.

He put the money in your paypal right? Just pull the money out before you ship the case. Problem solved.

That doesn't solve the problem if you intend to continue using paypal. If there is a dispute PP will simply put your account into minus and freeze it so that you can't do anything with it. Then you can still receive payments and as soon as they have the hundred cleared then you can access your account again.

Paypal will NOT side with you if you ship to any other address than the one listed on the paying account. And even then they might not side with you.
