I remember at last year's Mosconi Cup Team USA had a lot of problems with the breaking rules: 9 on the spot, 3 balls must pass the head string, a pocketed ball counts as 1. Also, I haven't triet it yet, but a version that I read about in the past was call pocket 9 ball, a slopped in ball basically becomes a push, your opponent can either take the shot, or pass it back to you if there is no shot.
