Is it a good idea to use wood for joint collar? Such as birdseye maple?

Or will it break easily?

Anyone has any experience?

Just think about any well used Sneaky Pete's you have seen over the years that did not have collars, and I think that will answer your question, the principle is exactly the same.

I have used wood many times. I really like the look, maybe with a brass ring or two. Seems to be just as durable and I love the "hit".

Some cuemakers will sleeve the joint with phenolic, then sleeve the wood over the phenolic. This gives the wood some additional protection as the phenolic will take up the majority of the force during use.
