I bought a used table and had it moved from a garage to my basement.
The mechanic showed up by himself, tightened up his belt and carried the 1" slates into his van.
Said he can't make living paying help all the time so he does it himself. I was amazed, I'm 5'8" 160, and this dude was smaller than me. He did bring some help getting it down to my basement stairs the next day.
Can you guys typically handle a piece of slate on your own?

Assuming a 9' table...I wouldn't THINK of it! That man's headed for a short career.

BTW, if he can't afford help, he also can't afford to pay for the slate he's going to drop one of these days nor the back injury he'll be nursing.

Actually it's not that hard. when my father had a 9' table installed in his house I carried the slates into the house myself, the table installer was an old guy so I figured I'd carry them in. I'm only 5'7" 145-150 lbs, but I do work in construction so I am used to carrying heavy objects (leadlined doors).
