can you polish formica on Gold Crown

can you polish the Formica on Gold Crown rails? I have only used pledge and paste was but was wondering if I could take a buffer with a compound to it. I wonder if the fine scratched would buff out? Or would I wreck it?

Anyone ever tried it?
 
nope

I had to ripp mine all off and redo mine with real wood veneer and corian sights. You could possibly lacquer over the Formica. just use a adhesion promoter.

I use a buffing system in woodworking, tried it on my GC3 rails while the table was disassembled and Craig (N10spool), thought they were new. The system is made by Beall Tools, mine mounts on a lathe. Go through each step using the tripoli, white diamond and carnauba wax.

Careful, a machine mounted buffing wheel can surprise you (and me) with how quickly and far it will fling a work piece.

Keep in mind...the finish on laminate is only paper thin;)
 
I use my dremel tool, with a buffing wheel attachment and can even take out some deeper scraps. Yes, go slow and steady, great way to fix up those marks but if your not careful you might have new ones to look at.

Thanks all, I did see Servicky's post on his table rebuild and the wood you are going to use for your top rails will be absolutely amazing when complete.

I got lucky my top rails are fine just many little fine scratches. I see some posts of older gold crowns and the top rails look like new so I was thinking they might be doing a little extra buffing.

I wish I had a spot I could test on but as we know everything shows on the rail.
