Can you top my bad luck???

"I was talking to my bookie about you, and he wants you to give him a call.
My only request is that every time you place a bet, let me know so I can go the other way."

When I go to the casino they built here I make an easy bet on the craps table. I have done this a number of times. I bet on the pass line or the 6 or 8 to win. Almost even money bets. I LOSE EVERY TIME. Right after I bet the shooter throws a seven & craps out WITHOUT EXCEPTION. Most everybody at the tables loses their money. I have been run off the craps table more than once. Can't blame them I guess for hating me with a passion.

If you go to the casino with me you will lose. Big time lose. BUT if you sit next to me at slots you will win every time [long as you are a stranger.] Time before last a lady sat next to me won 1st $30, then $50, then $188. On a penny slot machine.Over $250. At a real penny slot machine. One cent machine. Last time I told these guys that the 1st person to sit next to me would win win win. Sure enough this old guy sits down & started winning, winning, winning. My new buddies were still there. I pointed & said "What did I tell ya?" Their jaws dropped to the floor.

I know my own luck & the luck around me.

"Take two weeks off."

I did. Then went to a 9 ball tournament last night with my son. Bad luck started up all over again.

Who do you like in the Belmont Stakes, so I know
not to waste my money on that horse.

Thanks, and good luck to you. :grin-square:

"Which is to say, that luck plays a part in nine-ball. But for some players, luck itself is an art."

I love that movie & have it here. That was an excellent reply. There is so much to learn about pool, players & sharking from that movie. I play against a young player in a tournament out in the country who is Vince personified. Fantastic natural ability but doesn't know squat about the game or it's players. The boy is a showboat & can't get a game with anybody.

"Quit 9-ball and try one pocket."

Maybe I should. I'm strong on banks. I don't aim them, I do them by feel. Most players shy from all bank shots in tournaments. I play position For a bank shot. When doing a 'push' I always leave them a bank & they either miss or pass it back to me & I make it.

I play position For a bank shot.

It's starting to make more sense. :)

Honestly, when I saw this thread I expected it to be someone who left their cue case on top of the car while driving home, because someone just broke into their house and stole their pool table. Not someone who got a couple bad rolls and lost a short race.

Bet ya can't! I just left another tournament a loser. I walk in the best stick in the place & by the time my bad luck gets through with me I'm finished. No player can beat me on skill alone. Only my bad luck beats me. With my bad luck they can be a C player & win a race to 4 for the match.

I'm winning every game tonight right? Can't miss a shot or get out of position. I play the best player there. He wins the coin toss [of course, that's how my bad luck always starts, with the coin toss]. He breaks gets two balls in & then the balls roll perfect for a 1-9 combo in the side pocket. I don't even get to shoot. I break & wipe the floor with this guy. Now my bad luck once it starts will not allow me to win another match. My bad luck is predictable. So I try to make the 9 hanging in the corner pocket off the 3 which I make in the side. The 9 knocks out of the way & the cue ball scratches [weird] the 9 rolls against the opposite rail next to the corner pocket & the 4 rolls right behind the 9 & my opponent has ball-in-hand. Win & match.

Loser's side story. Miss a hard bank on the 7, cue ball hits the 8 which was locked on the head rail. 8 goes in the side pocket & the cue scratches. Leaves my opponent with ball-in-hand on the 7 [I knocked the 8 in for him] & an easy shot on the 9.

I am so used to players telling me I shot great but so sorry about the bad luck & bad rolls. People come out of the crowd to tell me how bad they feel for me & that I don't deserve it. This is happening constantly. I can't even play my own game anymore for fear of the luck. No one can match my game & they win from sheer luck.

My bad luck beats me all the time. My son says I should stop playing pool. How in creation do I get this black cloud out from over my head??????????????

That's not such bad luck, really. This guy never won a pool game in his entire life... and he blamed it all on bad luck. He even wrote a song about it:

Personally, I think his luck was not the problem, he just needed to find a better aiming system.

"Maybe we make our own luck, good or bad, or maybe you're a rotten person and karma is catching up with you."

I have done extensive charity work in my life. I put on a charity pool tournament that raised money & fed 4000 needy folks. I have received awards, certificates, letters of commendation & recognition from my community. I have been a volunteer for the schools, charities, events, rec centers, you name it. I am a community leader & held an elected position. I am a Vietnam Era decorated veteran. I have been trained in CPR & saved lives with it. I have ran into a burning building & made sure no one else was inside before the fire department arrived. I saved a young girl from being pushed out of a high-rise apartment building window & killed. I saved a girl from being kidnapped, raped & killed. I have stopped robberies, put out dumpster & car fires.

I have enough good deeds stored up for 10 men.

I'm starting to get hooked to your bad luck threads....
...but I don't think you're that unlucky.
You survived 'Nam with honor...and your community loves you.
So in the big picture, you are a way ahead.

But don't dwell too much on bad rolls, you become a lightning rod for
bad luck and your attitude becomes a self-full-filling prophesy.
Play a little tighter when you're going bad....a few ball-in-hands will
turn it around.

You probably aren't nearly as good as you think you are. Scratching on the 3rd game was your fault and not bad luck. Why not try and play better instead of blaming a missed shot on bad luck?

"Bad luck is a synonym for lack of skill."

I have trophies, patches, pins, certificates, pictures enough to fill a big wall. But in every tournament I play in the past 2 months the balls keep rolling perfect for easy combos & kisses for my opponent so he can win without any sort of skill. This has been happening without exception.

BTW: I have been ranked 16th in my state. Not bad... 16 out of 11,000,000. And that was after another terrible bout of bad luck. What happened there was a million to 1 occurrence in a national tournament. Actually for balls to line up exactly the same way twice in a row right after the break is in the trillions. But my bad luck can make the almost impossible happen.

Like I said; if you got to the table, you should have won. If not, its your fault for losing, not his, and not luck's.

I can't help but notice that whatever particular brand of bad luck I am having, the same exact thing happens over & over. One night it happened six games in a row with the same player. That is not coincidence.

Why then do other players & people out of the crowd tell me I'm the best player they have ever seen? I couldn't get out of the pool hall last night with my son without being stopped numerous times, having to shake hands & listen to them saying how sorry they were about my bad luck. Nice folks & I appreciate their kindness.

If there is no such thing as luck then explain this. In Florida a Plantation woman has won at least $600 more than 240 times in the past 19 years, according to a Sun Sentinel analysis of individual Florida Lottery winnings dating to 1993. A Hollywood man won $5,000 at least 52 times last year. The winningest player for 2011, a resident of Pasco County, cashed 100 Play 4 tickets for a total of $500,000.

ORLANDO, Fla. - Richard Lustig has hit it big several times. "One win was $842,000 and change," said Lustig. He's won 7 grand prizes in the Florida Lottery to be exact. "Win number 7 was 90 something thousand."

BISHOP, Texas - The odds that Joan Ginther would hit four Texas Lottery jackpots for a combined nearly $21 million are astronomical. Mathematicians say the chances are as slim as 1 in 18 septillion - that's 18 and 24 zeros.

There was a girl from my neighborhood who married & came back for a visit. Her husband had already won the lottery 3 times, one time for over $300,000. She described her husband as 'lucky'.

Luck exists, both good & bad.

Don't let him shoot and it wont happen over and over again.

Ever see that movie 'The Cooler' with William H. Macy?

Cooler: a person hired by casinos to spread back luck or break a lucky streak by a gambler.

If I were you I would be too scared to watch movies like The Cooler.
The good news is they wouldn't need a "cooler" for you, you're going to lose anyway><

What a load of nonsense. I thought this was satire (and it still may be- could anybody be this delusional?)

Stop feeling sorry for yourself and go practice. I used to piss and moan about bad rolls, but I came to realize that rolls go both ways. "But they go worse for me, I swear!" BS. You just forget when the roll goes your way, and whenever the roll goes the other way, you give it the "SEE! I KNEW IT!"

Earl is the only person in pro sports I've ever seen with that mentality who somehow succeeded, everybody else realized that luck is an excuse. I guess he just played enough pool that it didn't matter.

I remember a match I had recently when a guy I played absolutely lit me up- afterwards, he said "Man, you get the worst rolls!" But you have to brush that aside. When you get that victimhood shit in your mind, you're just making excuses for future poor play. You scratched on those shots, not the God of luck. You hit the ball wrong or you played the wrong shot, simples.

Stop feeling sorry for yourself and go practice. Luck is only an excuse, and the more quickly you realize it, the more quickly you'll improve. (And PS having the best stick means absolutely nothing)

Somebody on here has the sig of the golf quote "The more I practice, the luckier I get". That's the mentality I've chosen to embrace (and I suck still, but I realized the more quickly I accept that, the less damage it's going to do in the future in making excuses for myself and holding myself back)
