Captains and Co-Captains what would you do

What do you think about using your knowledge as a pool league LEADER to run your own league in your area with a respectable 8-ball league?

What would you do, should the right opportunity comes your way?

Would you rise up to the challenge, or could you?

Exactly what do you mean by respectable?

Just curious?

I've seen enough sandbagging, complaining and drama just playing in a league and just ignore most of it, but I can't imagine running one and having to deal with all of that.

must be ten letters

That would depend on the structure that is required. I have seen thing go well and I have also seen the other end of the spectrum. IF, and I mean IF, I were to run my own league it would have to be a players league. Players would make all the important decisions during the league meeting held at the end of each session. Blah Blah Blah...I could go on but that would be boring.

I am running a small league using modified BCAPL rules. And I am a captain of an APA 8 ball team. I didn't really volunteer to run the league it just needed someone to step up and all of the other team captains asked me to do it.

League doesn't have to mean 'handicapped'.

I just finished my local cash league, eightball, no handicaps. Competitors play without handicaps, pansies play with handicaps.

Interestingly enough, there were no arguments that I saw, no complaining about rules, no sandbagging and no cheating worth mentioning.

I'll choose to play with the competitors.

I wouldn't be afraid to kick out team/player that CONSISTENTLY creates controversy, demonstrates poor sportsmanship, etc.

It could be done....but you may want to stock up on Tylenol.

There was a bar I played out of several years ago, APA 8-ball league. The owner had 8 teams playing in-house league there. With the exception of the allure of the league winners possibly going to Vegas...I always thought she should have just run the league herself without the APA...and offered money payouts to the winners. It may not have flew...but if it had been me owning that bar and watching all that cash flow right into the APA's coffers, I would have at least polled all the players to see if there would have been any interest in a cash league.

yeah, I'm surprised by that attitude to. Maybe the owners don't wanna be the bad guy when a dispute comes up, but you put a LO in charge, cover his fees for the year, and the rest goes back to players and a lil sumtin sumtin for the owner to keep the tables tiptop.

A league that doesn't show favoritism towards certain individual's skill levels/rankings, which in-turns affect handicap posting. A league that automatically calculates skill levels with no human intervention. However, a manual update is available for those sandbaggers.

I know that song. It does take a strong leader to deal with all of that. Competition seems to bring out the worst in some people. Are you a captain or co-captain?

I don't think that I would want to deal with the drama and conflicts that would come with any league. Handicapped or not.

Any time you get a group of people together, you inevtiably encounter individuals who don't care how much conflict they create. Some thrive on it.

I do not begrudge my LO the money he makes. I would not want the headaches. I help him as a Division Rep, and so I see enough crap as is. It would spoil pool for me.

I'm not playing this session (courtesy of the 23-rule), but I've been captain of my team for a while now. I enjoy it, but there are a couple of teams who cause problems for everyone, pulling stuff like asking for schedules to be changed to reduce their travel time, complaining about tables and conditions during away matches, demanding rematches when they feel their opponents aren't properly handicapped, but then later proudly announce to everyone that they purposely try to increase their inning count to keep their handicap down.
Then there's dealing with issues of trying to protect the young ladies on our team from drunks and inappropriate behavior.
