We have an old carom table in our club and we want to change new cushions into our table.I'd like to know how the new rubber cushion is connocted to the rail;do we simply glue it or is there a special fixing method?

HI,Is it difficult to change those bumpers(never done it before) and what to watch not to screw it up totally? Are K-55 ok,or do I buy RC Pro 37,which are more expensive(100usd/400usd)?
Thanks Tapio
P.S. I live in Finland Europe

You might want to browse back through posts in this forum and find the one a couple of weeks ago where resources for building your own table are listed. These have information about putting on cushions and attaching rail cloth. The cushion attachment should be pretty easy, but the cutting and facing of the cushions and cloth attachment to the rails are more difficult.

It might be possible for you to salvage the existing cloth, but my guess is that you will likely be happier with the end result if you get new felt on the rails as well.

Unless you are a dedicated do-it-yourselfer, you may just want to hire a pro.

Installing new cushions is not overly difficult. Make sure the subrail is dead clean with no glue or rubber residue from the old cushions. The critical part is making sure the new rubber is aligned straight - no waves or ripples. The old rail cloth was probably trimmed when installed so you won't be reusing it and carom rails do not require cushion facings.
If you have any doubt in your abilities you'd probably be safer letting a pro do the job.

Hi,
Thank You very much for Your good info. When glueing the bumper into the rail do I use a press(I'm afreid that the bumper might slide) or do I just put the bumper on it's place by hand and let it dry overnight?
The problem with a pro is that there aren't any in Finland especially on carom tables. The guys assemble other kinds of tables like pool and snooker but they are not used to changing bumpers so we are grateful of any advice. We will put on new felt both on cushions and tablebed(Simonis 300 Rapid).I will be on holliday for next two weeks but look forward in hearing from You.
Thanks
Tapio

Carom tables

K-55 and Pro 37 profile cushions are not interchangeable. You need to find out which profile your table requires and use the correct profile for your table. American 3-C tables use K-55. European tables may use P-37. Having said that I understand Brunswick hasn't made a carom table for 20 years.
