carom table, please give your though

what do you look for when buying a carom table? I heard K-66 rail, italian slate....,but not sure if those still apply to carom table?
I look at the Royal table at www.californiatables.com can someone look at it and let me know if it is a good buy?

also, where to buy a carom cue for good price? let say around 100 bucks/cue? most of them I found on the net are 300+/cue.

don't know if you're interested, but i work at wallys in lakeland and they are looking to sell their table. it's an antique Brunswick, 5 by 10, they are willling to part with it.(it's in very good condition)
 
Why there are so many of this Brunswick antique forsale? So far I found 4 of them forsale already. I think those made between 1916-1920.
How much does he want for it?

Can anyone give me idea if this is a good table at californiatables.com (Royal table $3795) I wonder where the billiards hall get their tables and at what price? $3795 seem a little high for my budget.
Also where you guy get carom cues?

I haven't seen a carom cue in that price range. I think you can get a Kilby sneaky pete with a wood joint and carom taper for maybe 250 or so. Billiard Warehouse carries the Helmstetter production carom cues, but they are in the 300 range I think. Schulers are good but cost more. I think you will have to spend a bit more. If you also play pool you might get something you can do both with if you get extra shafts. But for that you won't be able to budget 100.

If you want a table that is international tournament quality, it will be heated and have European rubber cushions and slate at least 50mm thick. It will also cost between $4000 (if you get a very good used table deal) and $10,000. $6000 new would be a good price.

TampaBay, check out http://www.carombilliards.com or http://www.billiardsexpress.com ask them if there any carom cue [ this also Long's Billiard Supplies. There were a couple of Karmi cue in their cue rack,close to the price you asking]. You might look at a few Korean Carom Table. What size? 5'x10' or 4'x8' [Korean]!
 
It doesn't look like California Billiards knows anything about Carom Tables. I'd be careful with the K66 is not the rubber you need. K55 is what was used years ago but I"ve found it hard to find. The better choice is what Bob Jewett suggested, European Rubber.

For the money you want to spend, find an old Brunswick pre WWll with the "T" Rail design with 1-1/2" thick slate. If you look you can pick a nice one up for around $2500 then spend a $1000 or less to convert the liners to the Eruopean profile. You'll have a very nice playing table. Just not as nice as the heated European tables. Deno talks about a real nice table made in Mexico go to 3cushion.com. Raymond Ceulemans sells good rubber. The one thing that helps is to make sure you get a very heavy table. That's why the Eropean tables are 50 - 60 mm thick with an I beam support weighing in the neighborhood of 3000 pounds.

I think the reason you see Brunswicks for sale more than anything else is simply there are more of them and for the most part the game isn't played much anymore so the tables are sold then cut into pool or snooker tables. Very sad. Find one of these and you'll have an very nice hand crafted antique. There beutiful when restored. In there day they were state of the art.
