Carpet vs. Luxury Vinyl Flooring

Our community is refurbishing the social hall including the billiards room. There is a debate over carpet vs. LVP for the new flooring. The existing floor is carpeted. No food or beverages, other than water, are in the room. This is a 55+ group. One faction of the HOA board wants LVP so that all the rooms will look alike. Some of the players; however, want carpeting to dampen noise, less fatigue on old legs and joints, and help tame runaway balls.

Sure would like to hear opinions on the subject.

I much prefer carpet for all the reasons you stated. Brian.

Firm carpet. Don't get thick squishy stuff. Hard on the back just as much as tile. Get a good long lasting berber.

Carpet for all the pluses mentioned. LVP for once and done and maintenance free. We've had LVP in most of our house for a few years now with a dog, scratch free, beautiful stuff, but ours is textured and almost looks like real wood. The flooring sales lady tried to talk my wife into picking a smooth surface as it was easier she felt to clean. I told her I liked the textured version better. Funny now as she calls at times to use our house as a show place. I'm not a fan of the totally smooth stuff, but that's just my tastes.
Ea has their benifits. Sound and comfort carpet, maintenance and put it and forget it, LVP.
If carpet, I would just install a good commercial carpet.

Good advice.
I've been in the flooring business for 45 years and I have nothing to add to the above.
My personal recommendation is to install carpet squares,easy to replace if any get stained or damaged.

Not good berber. I played in a big commercial joint, 17000ft, that used what they call 'casino print' berber. They got YEARS of life from that stuff. Key to carpet life is CLEANING it, both regular vac'ing and periodic steaming. Carpet is more comfortable and a LOT quieter.
