case for an airplane??

i am going to vegas end of april and want to know if there's an airline case or something i can somewhat safely check my cues..... i can fed ex to riviera i know but overnighted insured for 6k is a bunch... then back....

what do all you cue junkiees do to bring your cues on a plane??
 
Voodoo has one that he's selling. He posted it in the "Wanted" forum. Not sure if it's still available, but he'll be back from VF on Sunday.

Fedx overnite with insurance to the hotel and call ahead and let the hotel front desk know about the delivery.
 
man there is no way youd get an airplane into a case.........i think they just keep them in hangers
 
Carry-on

i used to take my 3x6 on with me as a carry-on and stow it in the overhead compartments.

I believe they have been prohibited for several years as carry ons. You might get away with it at some airports, but they are not supposed to be allowed through security.

I think the mentality is pool cue = billy club

What I would do is take along a large hard-sided suitcase like a Samsonite and put my cues in it between some layers of clothes. They likely would fit diagonally in the largest size suitcase. And then I'd carry-on my (empty) case.

If you don't want to risk your suitcase getting lost or showing up a day or two late... then I'd ship them insured for their value and select FedEx or USPS 2-Day. I'd avoid UPS.

Though I imagine it won't provide as much protection as some of the other suggestions posted in this thread.

(Note, I don't personally have one of these cases, so I can't vouch for it - I'm just aware of it and thought I'd post a link as no one else had yet.)
 
well so far the options i investigated
ups/fed ex insured for 6k is 105 bucks ish to riviera
usps will only insure to 5k.
this will cost me 200 or so both ways

i am bringing my 2 SW's and stopping by the shop out there hopefully to drop off a cue to verify and a shaft to match a ring.... so big bucks...

to check it as baggage best scenario is to buy a halliburton or likewise hard like steel case-maybe a gun case?- and foam my whitten 3-6 in it with the cues... maybe add some wood/rod or something to stiffen it a little more?? that'll cost me probably 200-300.....

carryon most likely what i hear from most is not an option but i did talk to a guy went out to vegas in oct and he did see guys carrying cases on... but what happens if you get refused to board because of it <atleast it's a problem going out-- who cares about coming back :-)>

or i can by my case and cues it's own seat for 300.00 as fragile or collectable luggage <but i think they'd refuse too cause the same reason as carry-on>

so keep the ideas/experiences coming if ya got 'em.... my babies gotta get to vegas and back safely!!

I think bottom probably i will fed ex them to the riv....

A friend recently checked his hard-sided Halliburton-type pool cue case by its lonesome as check baggage... and when he retrieved it in Reno, the baggage handlers had put one helluva nice dent in one of the corners of his case... and the corners were reinforced!! God only knows how they did that!

Whne I've flown before with a shotgun what I did was... put the shotgun in it's hard-sided foamed case and then put the case inside a cardboard box with foam peanuts or equivalent (bubble-wrap?) on all six sides of the hard-sided case.

It arrived safe and sound.

I'd ship my cues the same way or put 'em inside my large checked Samsonite suitcase.
 
The Poper travle case is fine. I travel from Brazil to the U.S. twice a year. Works fine for me. I have the smaller one, you can fit any 2x4 case and a 1x2 or a 2x4 soft case in the small one. I have the Porper 4x8 hard case that goes in the small case with a 2x4 soft case, just fits.

Nice links - To me the best value and design for a Pool player is their "Smartpak" design. The 12" x 38" should be perfect for your regular cue case with room for some bubble-wrap for maximum protection.

At $150 it is cheaper than two-way FedEx shipment with insurance for high-value cues, so it's paid for itself in one trip. I've seen a version of this setup for putting Golf Club bags in and thought at the time it would be a great idea for cue cases.

i think this trashcan bomb is the way i will probably go.... best solution for protection and cost efficiency i think so far....
last resort is tomorrow i call northwest and talk to them about carryon and my 'clubs' to hurt people with..... that cost 2.5k.... see what they say...
