case for an airplane??

I have a large porper travel case. Inside, I put my cues in a hard 2x4 case (box type) and the wrap it with bubble wrap. I also carry an empty 2x4 case to use after I land. I fill out the porper case with popcorn styrofoam.

When checking in, I ask the case to be marked with red "fragile" stickers all over.

So far so good ... knock on wood.

I would definitely go with an aluminum flight case. They only weigh 8 or 10 pounds and are pretty much bulletproof.

I like Anvil Cases to move my equipment around at work. I know they make a nice business case and will make a case to any size for the extra $$. Just another option. Here is one on ebay for a guitar also:

I do have one for a cue. It is a nice little box, my brother got from Boeing Surplus. Since I never travel by air, I have never used it. I will post pictures in the future.

Bugs. ;)

also these http://www.justcases.com/subcases.html
check out the 46x9x9. this case is foam lined with layers of foam so it can be custom cut by the buyer. it also leaves some room for other things. it's perfect for a 3x6 case. Allied Electronics on the web sells this exact case for around $220. Platt case part# is 460909. there's 3 week build time for this case. this is the way to go imo.

$200 bucks round trip insured at 6k, is alot better than losing or having 6k worth of cues broken in half a trip. I mean lets face it, if u have 6k worth of cues, then im sure $200 worth of insurance cant hurt ur pocket, hehe. I mean personally, i'd rather be safe than sorry. Would rather be out $200 than out 6k. But this is just my personal opinion, i mean im not a genius or anything....=-)

my experiences and thoughts...

i took my 3 cases to the ups store, had them boxed up right per the airlines customer service rep info....and then upon checking in...the airline wouldnt insure it, even tho they tell you they will. THEY WONT>i was so pissed off, i just checked the box without insurance and rolled the dice on my $9k of cues and cases...i thought the box would deter any damage or theft versus sending my very easy to open cases to the flight line....i was lucky that nothing happened...this is not something you want to have to deal with the day you are leaving for vegas...that 4 hour flight feels like forever

they only way they WOULD insure the cues/cases is if i took them out of the boxes and checked the cases individually (since most of us are using hard cases with leather or vinyl coverings llike myself) the airline stated that they wouldnt cover any damage because their definition of a hard case is like a flight case/halliburton...so now what do you do>>?>?

i bought a halliburton after my last trip to vegas...BUT THEN you still have to insure it with the airline IF THEY WILL????

my next idea was to use a hard golf club case thats lockable...less likely to be thieved or messed with in my opinion...you can fit two or three cue cases in one these wrapped up in towels or whatever you like....this is still not a answer because of the insurance issue...

if i go again..i will ship them to the riv....and the riv customer rep said they would hold the shipment for any of us players, just let them know in advance...

Get a golf club hard case

and stick your cue case inside of that. I either use it as a suitcase or stick my centennial case in my golfbag. either way it is protected. you can either rent one, borrow one or buy one. They aren't too expensive. Just my 2 cents from experience.

i am bringing my 2 SW's and stopping by the shop out there hopefully to drop off a cue to verify and a shaft to match a ring.... so big bucks...

Just a thought - you could ship them to the shop instead of the hotel.

The Poper travle case is fine. I travel from Brazil to the U.S. twice a year. Works fine for me. I have the smaller one, you can fit any 2x4 case and a 1x2 or a 2x4 soft case in the small one. I have the Porper 4x8 hard case that goes in the small case with a 2x4 soft case, just fits.
Porper Travel Case and the lock within the link...
