Case maker recommendations

2 years might be too late. From earlier in this thread:

Don't remind me. My next child is due in May. My cue/case budget is frozen until then. This darn wife of mine keeps making me make adult decisions, and I don't like it one bit!!!!

Jack makes a beautiful eye catching case there is no doubt about that and somehow because he builds them in a small workshop by himself people think the grossly inflated prices he charges are justifiable, to each his own. However, when it comes to outright protection, pretty much any other custom case is better. The battle between JB and Jack is tiresome and old, but when it comes to protection JB wins hands down every time whether it's a custom, GTF, sterling, kopykat. As far as who makes a more beautiful case, it comes down to taste, JB can make any case jack can make and viceversa. When you want the most for your money go with JB, when you want Jack's style and cost is irrelevant than buy from him. I myself love the look of Jacks cases. I will say, those Volturi cases look damn nice tho.

I think Jacks prices are in line, a 2x4 is 475.00 and a 3x6 555.00. With leather as high as it's gotten that's a pretty fair deal, materials are probably well over 100 bucks because like everything else they just keep going up and up.

I'm not into the high end leather cases, always thought it was like putting a sign on my case "Please Steal Me, I'm Expensive". To each their own.

I did, however, purchase one of John's rugged cases at DCC. It is a fantastic product at a great price IMHO.

I've seen several Justis cases close up. Beautiful, elegant cases with great workmanship.

These two gentlemen make great products and obviously take pride in what they do. Too bad they seem to be at each others throat.

I agree that Jack makes pretty cases. And I agree that it's too bad we are at odds. But I don't have to lie about my competitor's work to justify my own shortcomings like he does. As long as that is the situation we will be at odds unfortunately.

I also don't have to lie about my own work, where it's made or how it's made. Sorry but if you are going to stand on Made in USA then your whole product should be made in the USA. Without an interior a cue case is a flimsy leather bag. No one pays $500+ for a flimsy leather bag to hold their cues.

So honestly my two biggest issues are that Jack says our interiors WILL harm cues. And that he stands on Made in USA when the actual case part is 100% made in China.

If he stops that then we have no issues.

Jack makes a beautiful case, with my interior inside it's a great case in my opinion.

Fellini, Porper, It's George and many others put protection first. Protection was the cornerstone of their case making. I think any case maker worth his salt in any field should be all about protecting the contents first and the wrapping pretty around it.

I agree with almost everything except the vice-versa. We can do everything Jack can do but he cannot do what we can do.

I agree that the prices for the basic cases are not too bad. Swift is lower, we are about the same, Chuck is about the same, etc... I don't think that the prices of the Ron Ross tooled ones by Jack are in line though. I just can't understand $3500 for a cue case when Ron Ross does fully tooled - hand built saddles for $3500, something doesn't add up when you have basically a $500 case with a couple tooled parts - not even 1/4th of a saddle - and it's as much as a saddle with tooling on every inch.

Looks like Volturi is shooting Air barrels!! This quote from another thread!

"Props to you JB. At least you did what was right. My wife "won" a contest Vultori case back in September of last year. Was told it would be 6 weeks. We have yet to see a case and get nothing but excuses."

I was actually curious. I've known several Brits, and never once heard "dude" come out of their mouths.

I wasn't insinuating anything else with my statement. Simply asking a question.

Probably a Brit that has heard Americans use the term or has been to America and thought it would be hip to use that term. Probably just imitating what he heard some Americans say.

We don't shoot air barrels. Indeed ur wife won a free case from a draw we made in FB. Yes there were delays due to excessive orders. And priority in my books are paying clients. That case has been ready for over a month. If only somebody replied messages you would have it by now .
This is the gratitude and attitude we receive by doing a nice action ...

Sorry, I should have been more specific, I was referring to his higher end tooled customs. You are probably correct in the pricing for his basic cases...after all, if anyone Knowles what it costs to make a case it would be you. Love your work too Rusty! Fantastic looking cases.

Agreed...unless of course you did say you would deliver it in six weeks. I think the free case thing you did was cool tho. Fantastic work coming outta your shop. How can I order?

Just me but if the case was done and ready then I would have splashed it all over Facebook and AZB the moment it was done to not only alert the winner but also to show it off to everyone else.

Hard to imagine that someone waiting six months on a free case wouldn't be checking their messages. Haven't had that happen to me much if at all.

I actually think that's pretty cheap for what you're getting. I know some would like to debate, but JJ cases hold their value or GO UP. If Jack really does step away, guess what prices will be doing...

Just because I would rather not have to make posts like this one doesn't mean I am playing the victim, I am the victim, but not a helpless one that you or anyone else here can force to leave the playground.

John, never call yourself a victim in public.

"Synonyms for 'victim': loser, prey, stooge, dupe, sucker, quarry, fool, fall guy, chump, patsy, sap..."

Not a good image for a gamblin' man to put out there. ;)

Remember -

When you call yourself a victim, you feel like a victim

When you feel like a victim, you feel like people are conspiring against you

When you feel like people are conspiring against you, you get depressed

When you get depressed, you have trouble sleeping

When you have trouble sleeping, you wake up unrefreshed

When you wake up unrefreshed, your stroke turns to oatmeal

And when your stroke turns to oatmeal, you get body slammed by a 300-pound Figueroa

Don't get body slammed by a 300-pound Figueroa

Give up the victim role now. You are a "plaintiff".

Cheers :)

Have you tried to sell any Justis cases? I have not yet been able to sell one for the prices listed on Jack's site or more. Everyone offers less. In the pool rooms you can pick them up for a couple hundred.

I mean I understand the hype but it doesn't match the reality. You can track prices of used Justis cases just in the for sale forum and see that the do not hold the retail price paid.

If they truly did then there would already be a robust market for Justis cases. Now maybe when jack stops making cases the prices of used ones might rise but for now used ones do not sell for more than jack charges except perhaps in very limited situations.

The Justis cases that hold their value are the higher end ones, namely the Ross tooled cases that are a monumental ripoff in my opinion seeing as you can get a Kinghorn with tooling just as good if not better for much less. The regular base models are in line with other makers. The higher end Justis cases are good from an investment standpoint though if you can find someone selling one short on cash

I just sold a 2x4 case about 4 months ago for $500. Albate, back to the original owner, but it is what it is. I also had an offers for $550, $450, and $400. In this area, a 2x4 simpler justice sells used for about $400, in good shape. Granted there aren't many around.

That's not to say JB cases, and Volturi, and Melton, and Swift, etc. don't hold their values too.

You can get a Corvette ZR1, and Gallardo Superlegera. They both do similar things, but guess which one MOST people would rather have given the choice. There's no such thing as a rip off if people are willing to pay for it.

By your same notion, I suppose Southwest, Searing, Szamboti are all rip offs too?

Price is completely irrelevant when talking about art. That's what you're buying when you buy a heavy tooled case.

I couldn't give my Instroke away. Just saying. A bloke actually PMed me and said he was an aspiring artist, and would make a drawing of any photo I sent him in exchange for it. Another offered £40 ($60).
